PSA: You’re Not Being Ghosted – The Hiring Manager Might Just Be on Vacation 🌴

We’ve all been there: you send off your application, ace the interview, and then…silence. Before you start thinking you’ve been ghosted, remember that it’s summer! 🌞 Hiring managers and recruiters need a break too, and it’s possible someone on the hiring team is enjoying some well-deserved time off.

Here are the best ways to follow up and ensure you keep the momentum going:

  1. Send a Polite Follow-Up Email: If you haven’t heard back within a week or two, send a courteous follow-up email. Reiterate your interest in the position and politely ask for an update.
  2. Check for Out-of-Office Replies: If you receive an out-of-office (OOO) reply, take note of the return date and the point of contact (POC) listed. Follow up with the POC if you need immediate assistance.
  3. Be Patient and Flexible: Ideally, the hiring team would have provided a timeline before their leave, but things happen. If you know they’re on vacation, wait a few days after their return to reach out again.
  4. Use the Time Wisely: If there’s a delay, use this time to your advantage. Continue applying for other positions, enhance your skills, or even take a brief break yourself. Giving yourself time to relax and recharge is just as important.

For companies planning accordingly, now is the perfect time to kick off a search to have someone in the seat by Labor Day. This timeline allows for a smooth transition and gives everyone a chance to enjoy their summer break.

If you can, try to give yourself a break between jobs to relax and unwind. Remember, everyone needs time off to fully unplug and enjoy themselves. 🏖️

In conclusion, patience is key. Understanding that everyone needs a break can help alleviate some of the stress and uncertainty during the job search process. Keep following up, stay proactive, and make sure you’re giving yourself time to recharge as well.

Best of luck with your job search and enjoy the summer!
