Pre-order now. The grown up announcement.

Pre-order now. The grown up announcement.

I posted a little (funny) video of my (naive) excitement last week. Here.

My therapist saw it and tasked me with, instead of having a very playful explanation of what my book is, to have a more - quote - “grown up” version of what it is. As much as it brings joy to others, it can be deprecating in a way that it removes the effort that I’ve put into something I care so much about.

And I won’t stop being playful. I’m a life sized Disney character. Aladdin for those asking.

So I want to take a moment, to explain what will others get from the book?

I hope that professionals in our industry of customer experience, particularly online, will get a new perspective. Or a reinvigorated perspective, should I say. A reinvigorated perspective about why customers purchase with brands online. About what a relationship is between a brand and a customer.

I feel as though the art of the relationship has been lost, trumped by the need for immediate commercial gain.

It's written in a way to help others think about that perspective. I would be remiss not to talk about being personable with customers, and write the book in a way that’s not personal to me. Heroes and knights, villains and foes, dragons and Disney. It is both satirical and sarcastic.

That's the best way I feel to promote thinking about things in a new perspective; critical thinking with a smile on our face. I won't lie, it's funny. In places. But more importantly, it asks questions unlike other marketing books. Not by doing what I do, what I’ve done, or what the other 153 people that graciously gave me their time have done...

… but by asking the questions that they, we, I ask.

Asking questions, having introspective conceptual thoughts about technology, the economy, our society, that - on the surface - may have nothing to do with personalisation, but in reality has everything to do with it.

I really hope this book helps those in our industry remember what personalisation should be all about, and have a smile on their face along the way.
