Polar Bear Express: WestJet Cargo makes special delivery

It was a first-class flight for two “beary” special passengers aboard a 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF).

WestJet Cargo safely transported two polar bears, six-year-old 'Baffin' and seven-year-old 'Siku' across Canada before their arrival at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.  The Canadian carrier’s 737-800BCF touched down in Calgary, Alberta completing the polar bears journey from Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

“I am proud of the team who transported and delivered the VIPB’s (Very Important Polar Bears 😉) safely to their new home at the Calgary Zoo,” WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech posted on LinkedIn.

The carrier is the official Polar Bear Transport Partner for the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and supports the zoo’s ongoing wildlife conservation efforts. This month, the polar bears are now viewable to the public.

As a division of the WestJet Group, WestJet Cargo provides cargo services across North America, South America and Europe. The carrier has a fleet of Boeing Freighters including four 737-800BCFs that entered service earlier this year.
