Our Commitment to a Better World

Our Commitment to a Better World

Now more than ever, it is critical to come together as one global community. The events of 2020 have laid bare the need for decisive collective action on the climate crisis as well as social equity. We believe the private sector has a pivotal role to play, which is why at AB InBev sustainability is embedded in how we do business. Because the strength of our global business comes from our local presence, we are focused on supporting the recovery efforts and building a resilient, inclusive and sustainable value chain for the next 100+ years.

Doing so starts with making progress on the social and environmental goals and ambitions we have set for ourselves, and transparently reporting on that progress, as well as the lessons we are learning along the way. With the release of our inaugural 2020 Environmental, Social & Governance Report, we reflect on our work to drive transformative change across our value chain and reimagine a brighter future. Here are some key highlights:

  •  Sustainability is our business. Brewing great beers relies on a healthy environment and thriving communities. That is why we always say, sustainability is not just part of our business, it is our business. During these extraordinary times, we have been reminded that the climate crisis remains the single greatest challenge to the future of our planet and the prosperity of our communities. We are proud of our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship, and we are working with incredible partners to tackle climate change, water stress, waste and biodiversity loss. In 2020, we continued to make progress on our 2025 Sustainability Goals across Smart Agriculture, Water Stewardship, Circular Packaging and Climate Action. We are proud to have received an “A” rating from CDP for both climate change and water security and to have been featured in Fortune’s Change the World 2020 rankings for our work with farmers in our global supply chain.
  •  Our colleagues are, and will always be, our greatest strength. This past year, we have worked tirelessly to implement even more stringent safety measures in our facilities, including strict health and safety practices, workplace capacity and social distancing guidelines, health tracking and personal protective equipment. We have also continued to foster collaboration and greater diversity within our teams, knowing that we serve our diverse consumers and communities better when diversity is reflected in our teams.
  •  When our communities thrive, our business thrives. Our beers are almost entirely sourced, brewed and enjoyed locally, deeply rooting us in the communities where we live and work. We are aiming for inclusive growth and seek to create shared value across our entire value chain. We have worked to strengthen and empower the small businesses in our value chain through programs with smallholder farmers, suppliers, retailers and recycling collectors.
  • Every experience with beer should be positive. Compliance with our Responsible Marketing and Communications Code is mandatory for all our marketing, sales, promotion and communications efforts, including both traditional and digital media. We are committed to reducing harmful consumption by empowering consumers with choice by expanding our no- and low- alcohol portfolio and information by working to place a guidance label on all our products to improve alcohol literacy. We are also working with measurement and evaluation partners to identify, test and independently evaluate evidence-based interventions that reduce harmful consumption.
  • Our purpose of bringing people together for a better world has never been more relevant than it is today. Our commitment to sustainable development remains unwavering as we work to build resilience and equity through our culture of ownership, sense of purpose and long-term mindset. While looking to the next 100+ years, we are also focused on accelerating transformation and prosperity in our communities today. We remain committed to the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Partnerships are essential to sustainable development. We will continue to collaborate with entrepreneurs, innovators and our supply chain partners through our 100+ Accelerator program and Eclipse platform as well as local communities, governments, academia and NGO partners. Through our invaluable partnerships and the commitment of our team of teams, we are building a better world—together.
