Oops..!! A Recruiter's Challenge with Hiring Managers

One of the major challenge in the recruitment life cycle is the gap between Hiring Managers and Recruiters. There is a huge disconnect between the HMs and Recruiters, which inturn impacts the hiring process and it raises some major concerns:

1- Prolongs the hiring cycle.

2- Wastage of Interviewers time (Impacts the cost)

3- Candidate Experience gets affected.

Here's a report which depicts the gap between the HMs & Recruiters

Managing HM Expectations:

The only way to deal with this is by smartly managing the expectations of the Hiring Manager. But, here is the disconnect. If you are asked to engage or make one understand in a language which you aren't comfortable with, will you be able to? Obviously not, that's the same challenge here "The Language Disconnect".

OOPS..!

If you are an IT recruiter by now you would have sensed what I'm trying to convey with OOPS. Yes, recruiters need to get a hang of technology to bridge this gap. Getting a hang of technology doesn't mean you should learn to code, you just need to know what is what. For instance Hibernate is an ORM & its not as same as Spring, but there are other frameworks which are similar to Hibernate, are you aware of them? So contextual tech relation is something the recruiters need to get a hang on.

Personal Experiences:

I have been on call with HMs along with so many other recruiters to get detailed understanding on a JD. More often than not, the kind of Q's recruiters have to a HM is astonishing

  • What is the CTC Band?
  • Which are the target companies?
  • How many years of exp in a specific framework/tool?

I believe such questions do not radiate the exact need of the Hiring Manager. Let me give you an example, lets say you are hiring for a large investment banking firm and you require an X framework as a mandatory skill. Now, you find a resume of a candidate working in ABC enterprises (which builds softwares for schools/colleges, not so large scale), do you think this candidate even after having worked with X framework will be suitable for your hiring?

As an on-going effort of empowering recruiters with the latest recruiting trends, Skillscaler is offering a half day workshop for recruiters on "Demystifying Tech for Recruiters." As a Hiring Manager if you think, one of the ways to bridge the gap between Recruiters and HM is by better understanding of tech, do share this with your recruiting team.
