New Vactor Truck Added to #TeamFTL Fleet

The City's Water Distribution Team, housed in the Public Works department, recently received a new vactor truck. 🥳 This investment is yet another example of Fort Lauderdale's commitment to improving our infrastructure.

New Vactor Truck in action!

This new vactor truck will help staff battle the challenges of excavating while encountering underground utility conflicts. It will increase efficiency, enhance worker safety, and expand the range of services provided by the distribution team. The crew participated in a training exercise and performed a hydro excavation (soft dig) to get comfortable with the new equipment.

What is a Vactor truck?

Vactor trucks, also known as vacuum trucks, are large tank trucks that use high-pressure water jets and powerful vacuums in many ways:

  • Hydro Excavation: Soil is removed using pressurized water instead of mechanical tools to create a dirt slurry. Hydrovac equipment can then vacuum the slurry to reveal deeper layers of the ground below.
  • Breaking Up Blockages: High-pressure water jets break up debris and thick layers of waste to clean underground pipes and structures.
  • Vacuuming: The truck's powerful vacuum draws waste into its storage tanks.
  • Transportation: Collected material is transported to a treatment or disposal site, such as a sewage treatment plant.

Isn't she a beaut?!
