A Memo on Bob Kelley's The Memorandum

A Memo on Bob Kelley's The Memorandum

I’ll never forget those early days.

Bob Kelley hired me when I was young, barely out of law school. He told me to focus on this post-collision fuel-fed fire case against General Motors. He knew that GM was hiding something, he just knew it. I thought he was crazy.

I was wrong.

A few years later, we had discovered the truth in a secret memorandum. When we went to trial, there were 60 Minutes cameras were in the courtroom, along with national newspaper reporters. When Judge Arthur Franza read that memorandum, he turned to the defense attorney and asked, “What am I supposed to do? Just sweep this all under the rug?” When GM’s lawyer said yes, he shook his head. “Some of us still believe what’s written on the courtroom wall,” the judge said. We all spun around to read the words we had barely seen every day for months: We who Labor Here Seek Only Truth.

And that truth came out. The most shocking facts were covered in the 60 Minutes story, the television news, the newspaper coverage. But the fascinating inside story had never been told.

Not until now. Bob’s new book, The Memorandum, tells the real story. It’s a #1 Bestseller on Amazon across multiple categories. It reads like a John Grisham thriller. I read it in one sitting.

It was nice to be reminded of those early days. And to remember: sometimes the truth does win out.
