The Killer COVID-19!!

The Killer COVID-19!!

The first case of the corona virus pandemic in India was reported on 30 January 2020, originating from China. The outbreak has been declared an epidemic in many states and union territories. Government of India and the state governments took various steps in order to combat Corona Virus. Honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi even requested the citizens for a voluntary public curfew on 22 March 2020. The entire nation reacted in a very responsible way and stayed at their homes, I was so proud to see the unity among Indians. But at the end of the same day at 5 PM, people jumped on to streets rather than just clapping at their balconies to show gratitude towards people who are working day in and day out to get things better. The very next day, I woke up to the news of Bangaloreans out on street to shop for Ugadi. I was really disappointed. Government of Karnataka declared lockdown for 9 days effective from 24 March 2020 and to my shock the entire bangalore started travelling to their hometown. I do not understand why people are not understanding the severity of the situation. The objective of lockdown is to avoid people gathering in large numbers and avoid spread of corona virus. Bangalore already has many asymptotic cases who carried the virus to their villages now. At least cities have good medical facilities to which one can reach out , however if the virus spreads to villages it would be very difficult to control the spread of virus. Considering Indian population, we are definitely not ready for such a situation. This is not the time to celebrate, chill or go on vacation. This is the time to take care of your health by staying wherever you are. Above mentioned is just an observation I made. You all might have also observed similar or even worse situations in your surroundings.

Corona Virus has a huge impact on Indian Economy as well. The sooner we get out of this crisis, the faster we can take steps on recovering our country from the financial crisis this has led to. Honourable Prime Minister has announced 21 days lockdown yesterday. His words "If we don't handle these 21 days well, then our country, your family will go backwards by 21 years" are so true. 21 days is really huge . It will impact each one of us on various levels from roadside vendors to entrepreneurs to MNCs. For many survival will be a challenge and for some paying their loans and bills. Government, Doctors, Nurses, Policemen and many more people are giving their best to help us come out of this crisis. The least we can do is co-operate. Let us utilise this time to be healthy both mentally and physically. Also let's please be kind towards the needy. I request each one of you to be aware and also spread awareness with people in your surroundings. Kindly take this situation seriously and stay wherever you are. Together we can combat Corona Virus.
