The AI Index program is an independent initiative at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) . The program is a collaborative effort led by the AI Index Steering Committee, an interdisciplinary group of experts from across academia and industry.
Here are the main 10 takeaways
1. AI Beats Humans on Some Tasks, But Not All
AI has gotten better than humans in areas like recognizing images, understanding English, and reasoning visually. However, it still struggles with harder tasks like advanced math, common sense reasoning, and planning.
2. Industry Leads in AI Research
In 2023, companies created 51 significant AI models, while universities made 15. Additionally, 21 notable models were made through collaborations between companies and universities.
