I will not bow to any sponsor...probably

Hi, it’s Rachel here,

There was a bit of furore recently with Gary Lineker's latest wardrobe malfunction being touted as a sign of things to come for Irish product placement. The BBC's golden boot found himself in hot water once again. Lineker, a notorious clotheshorse with his own menswear range, has been spotted sporting his own brand's threads on air, a move that could be interpreted as product placement. Not allowed on the ‘impartial’ BBC.

Although ‘celebrity’ endorsements seem to be ever growing and now coming under greater regulation the product placement industry is booming.

So this week we thought we’d delve a little into this much misunderstood world and our own Sarah McMahon gives us her take on the latest developments in product placement - The rise of the influencers.

Stay curious

Rachel
