How Women Are Bringing A New Perspective to Leadership

On 14 March 2022, the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) announced its fifth annual list of Top Women to Watch in Transportation, and it was my honor to be recognized as one of them. Thinking about these highly qualified, talented, and gutsy women with whom I share this recognition, it gives me immense satisfaction to see how women are smashing through the glass ceiling in diverse roles and bringing a new perspective to leadership.

A 2021 Harvard Business School report found that firms became more open to change after women joined the top management team. The study showed that women not only brought new perspectives, they also changed how the C-suite thought about innovation, ultimately enabling these firms to consider a wider variety of strategies for creating value. The emergence of female leaders can become a driving force for good in today’s world. For the first time, we’re witnessing female leaders emerging from diverse generations to interweave their knowledge and strive for change. If we look at environmental awareness, we have someone as respected and experienced as Jane Goodall standing alongside teenage activists like Greta Thunberg.

As Founder and CEO of Candor Expedite, a women-owned expedite delivery company, I am passionate about gender inclusivity and women leadership. This passion has led to the LLC – the Ladies Leadership Coalition, a podcast for women in business by women business owners. Comprised of 6 women, each comes from a different walk of life and has encountered obstacles of their own. This podcast is to share those stories and to give listeners advice on being a successful boss lady in business. Stalwarts like Linda Rigano and Laurie Sprouse have been featured on LLC, and we look forward to hosting many more!

When the day comes that a 6-year-old draws a female figure on being asked to draw a scientist or a CEO, we’ll know our future generations are on the right path. Although we have come a long way, I believe there is still a need for more women to join us in the field of logistics to make strides with diversity in our industry. It gives me a sense of pride knowing that the amazing women at Candor are contributing to this need and creating something special every day.
