How to address overlooked transformation barriers with extreme ownership?

How to address overlooked transformation barriers with extreme ownership?

Honored to say “Thank You for your service and bravery” to the nearly 20 million veterans. Extending the thought process on how "Courageous Leadership" plays a very critical role in the any type of disruption on top of all the technology(enabler) levers.

A. Quick recap of life lessons 'The Wizard of Oz' taught us all,

  • Real courage is facing your fears (embrace change) - The Lion best represented this when he put aside his own fears to help his friends.
  • You can accomplish anything - The Scarecrow wanted a brain, the Tin Man wanted a heart and the Lion wanted to be brave. Even though they thought they had to ask the Wizard to grant their wishes, they found those traits inside themselves.
  • Never give up - Dorothy never stopped trying to get home even when the wicked witch of the West sent flying monkeys after her. So when the going gets tough, stick to your yellow brick road and you'll overcome your obstacles too.

B. Quick recap of 'TEAM of TEAMS' operating model,

  • Shared consciousness - Moving teams around to ensure everyone understands each role and shares the same consciousness to make decisions building TRUST which is essential for teams to work together successfully.
  • Empower TEAMS to make decisions - In traditional hierarchical structures, the decision making process often constrains innovation. Empowered champions armed with unprecedented levels of insights from across the organization decide and act decisively. Approval is just a matter of protocol.
  • Leaders should enable, not direct - Staying competitive requires agility that can only happen when there trust. When enterprise barriers (politics & bureaucracy) are simplified, LEADER's role changes from director to enabler.

C. Now, let's create a Ownership framework with above A & B foundation

With reference to the above framework, how do you plan to coach your TEAM to spend more time on the RIGHT side of the LINE creating amazing experience and belief with a tenacious commitment to embrace transformation? Few examples,

  • Effective communication: Great communicators are able to separate their observations of a situation from their evaluations or judgments (belief bias) of it.
  • Own it: Take ownership of the enterprise barriers - indecisive setting, outdated operating models, compliance concerns, talent skill gaps, and legacy complexity.

Action item: Take a step back and think about accelerating (20X) transformation initiatives creating TEAM of TEAMS.

Hi Chandra thanks for posting. We had Gen. Stanley McChrystal speak at our annual user conference last month and his message was very powerful. I'm curious - how do you operationalize things like shared consciousness and empowering team members with insight at scale? Are there any specific tools or approaches you have had success with?
