Here are four triggers that can move you into a growth mindset

A mindset is a spectrum, not a switch. Here's how to trigger more growth.

Today’s guest is Dr. Mary Murphy. Dr. Murphy studied under Stanford’s Carol Dweck, the pioneer of growth mindsets. She insists that our mindset is less like a switch and more like a spectrum. Her new book is Cultures of Growth: How the New Science of Mindset Can Transform Individuals, Teams, and Organizations. It’s backed by more than 10 years of research into orgs like Patagonia and this one that owns LinkedIn, Microsoft. These companies were built on cultures of growth. She found that these teams succeeded by getting people to work together and think a little bigger.

In contrast to these types of companies, Dr. Murphy describes cultures of genius. These are the opposite of growth mindset-style companies. Instead of seeing everyone as capable, they set up a couple of so-called geniuses - these big thinkers from whom all ideas must flow. This mindset keeps knowledge specialized and rarified. And it can leave team members feeling stuck. Stagnant.

But these mindsets, they’re not new to us. Dr. Murphy explains how we’re taught these cultures from an early age. And, we can revise what we have learned and embrace more growth at any point.

This week on the show, Dr. Murphy reviews four triggers that can move us into our growth mindsets around just about anything. You can listen to the show here, or below. Then jump into the conversation to suggest ways in which your mindset helps you succeed!

"Transcripts available upon request" If you already have the transcript, why would you want people to request it, rather than just posting the link? It would be a little better if that comment were a link to make the request. As it is, it's not clear where or how to make that request.
