The Greatest Gift
Today is my last day of work for a few months, as next week I get the greatest gift ever, the gift of life, a kidney transplant.
After a couple of years battling Chronic Kidney Disease, and a year on dialysis treatment, I say treatment but basically it just keeps you alive it doesn't make you feel better, I get the chance to live a full life again.
You never know how strong you are until you go through something as life changing as this, but it also makes you realise how lucky you are. Lucky that I had a friend who was willing to donate their kidney, and that friend was a good match for me. The words "thank you" cannot express how much it means.
So my message to you is to think about what you can do to help other people who might be down on their luck. It doesn't have to be the donation of a live organ, but it could be making sure you're on the organ donation list, or donating your blood to help with transfusions, you'll get tea and biscuits for compensation. Or you might want to help out with a homeless charity or raise funds by doing a challenge like a half marathon or climbing Snowdon.
Whatever you do, make a difference in life!
