WITH GREAT RESOLVE

As we kick off 2024 and the 22nd edition of HOW PREDICTABLE, I look back at 2023 and cherish the opportunities that I have had and the thoughts and concepts we have shared. From a vision to simplify the forecasting process with some practical tools and tips, I share these updates weekly and now have just over 900 weekly subscribers and tens of thousands of impressions. I am humbled by the acceptance of the LinkedIn Community.

PREDICTIONS/RESOLUTIONS

No publication starts of a new year without a list of predictions or resolutions. I am saving all my predictive skills for forecasting and demand planning, so will offer up 3 RESOLTION suggestions for 2024 that will certainly improve your work life drastically and maybe even your personal growth.


1)      USE CHAT GPT/COPILOT/BARD

a.       I have stated this before in previous editions that the AI revolution is upon us and is now going to be inserted into your daily life. Today, right after reading this, go to the programs mentioned above, any one of them, and ask it to write you a poem of hope and inspiration for 2024. Do it to see what it can do. Modify your ask to include some details about your spouse/friend/family that you provide and have them rewrite it. Now ask it why it included any couplet, and it will provide some logical rationale for its inclusion. If you have not done this type of exercise before, welcome to 2024. This program is about to become your daily assistant.

 

2)      FIND A MENTOR AND ASK FOR THEIR HELP

a.       Benjamin Franklin was not only a brilliant scientist, but he was also an excellent statesman. He would find the most unlikely person on the opposition and ask them personally for their help. He often got them to do the work he wanted by acknowledging that he NEEDED them. Ask a person you admire for their advice on a particular objective, and if they can, ask that they do something out of their way to help you in your mission. The sheer number of people who will do something exceptionally courteous for you without any expectations back will astound you. Despite what Simon and Garfunkel insisted, no person is an island. You will need the help and influence of people in positions of authority to advance your causes in your absence. Ask a person of importance a favour and see what comes of it.

 

3)      IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP

a.       If you can, build a plan that gets you to 7 hours of sleep a night. The grind of the day in- day out work requirements places huge taxes on your mind and body and sleep is the most effective method to regulate this. From irritability in dialogue to proper immune system functions, the amount of quality sleep has no greater impact than any other activity you will do. You cannot out-exercise or out-diet a bad rest. If you have issues with snoring or restlessness, seek out sleep professional help as BPAP and CPAP therapy can improve quality instantly and vastly assist cognitive function. Build a sleep plan for yourself as vigilantly as you would a diet or exercise one.

Every resolution you make has a life cycle. Most die of inertia rather than poor or improper execution. Take one of these and do it today, make a reminder to do the 2nd one, and once that reminder pops up, do it and create a plan for the third. Momentum and persistence has moved bigger mountains than any machines.
