GM accelerates climate solutions at Climate Week NYC ‘22

That’s a wrap on #ClimateWeekNYC!

Read on for a few highlights of our time leading up to, sponsoring, and participating in #ClimateWeekNYC ‘22.

  • September 13th, 2022 - GM announces the Climate Equity Collaborative with National Wildlife Federation

GM and the National Wildlife Federation ramped up to Climate Week with the launch of the Climate Equity Collaborative, a breakthrough public-private initiative focused on addressing the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities. We've donated $1 million to the Collaborative through our Climate Equity Fund and will help co-design its infrastructure and roadmap alongside sustainability leaders from government, organizations, and businesses.

  • September 15th, 2022 - GM and musician AY Young hit the road to Climate Week in an all-electric Chevy Bolt EUV

As a way to highlight our collaboration with the National Wildlife Federation, we teamed up with UNDP Generation 17 Young Leader and musician 🔌 AY Young for an epic road trip from Detroit, MI to New York City in a Chevrolet Bolt EUV, one of the most affordable EVs on the market and a symbol of our commitment to making an all-electric future more accessible for everyone. The road trip kicked off at the International Auto Show in Detroit where GM displayed our all-electric lineup. Along the way, we stopped at our Parma sheet metal stamping facility and our Ultium battery manufacturing plant, both of which are an integral part of manufacturing our current and future EVs.

  • September 17th, 2022 - GM arrives in NYC and displays two EVs at the Nest Summit

The Nest Climate Campus is a climate action platform and official Climate Week event partner dedicated to mobilizing solutions. For those who attended the Summit, housed at the iconic Jacob Javitz Center, they had an opportunity to see our amazing Chevy Bolt EUV and stunning Cadillac LYRIQ, which were on display to showcase just a piece of our EV lineup, a lineup that will meet a range of customer needs.

  • September 19th, 2022 - GM participates in discussions with Clinton Global Initiative, World Economic Forum, and the UN Global Compact

On the ground at Climate Week, it was an honor to help shape ambitious conversations on how we can address climate change quickly, responsibly, and with an eye toward equity and inclusion. Whether navigating the new policy environment with the Clinton Global Initiative , discussing decarbonization with the World Economic Forum , or moderating a panel for the UN Global Compact Network USA about how other companies are implementing the United Nations ' Sustainable Development Goals into their work, it was a privilege to share the exciting work we’re doing at GM to unlock a more sustainable future while learning from other leaders driving meaningful change.

I also had the pleasure of joining the Climate Group in marking the fifth anniversary of their global electric transport initiative, EV100, and celebrating the progress being made to drive the #electricvehicle transition globally.

  • September 20th, 2022 - GM hosts a dinner and discussion around Equitable Climate Action

It was great to host a dinner focusing on Equitable Climate Action. We were honored to host a discussion moderated by Lauren Kiel , general manager of Bloomberg Green, with over 40 inspiring guests from the public and private sectors. Together, we addressed the urgency of putting equity at the heart of our climate solutions and shared the pathways we’ve been taking to actualize this way of working.

  • September 20th, 2022 - GM and Environmental Defense Fund announce recommended principles on EPA emissions standards

We rounded out our Climate Week journey with an announcement with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), sharing joint principles that we believe will help inform the EPA’s upcoming emissions standards and accelerate our shared goal of a zero-emissions, all-electric future. Together we encourage EPA to establish standards aimed at ensuring that at least 50% of new vehicles sold by 2030 are zero emitting, while achieving at least a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in model year 2030, and dramatically reducing nitrogen oxides and particulates, consistent with eliminating tailpipe pollution from new passenger vehicles by 2035. These principles provide certainty for automakers and communities, support underserved and socially vulnerable communities, offer a compliance pathway that supports accelerated EV adoption, and encourage coordination between the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation.

I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished this week and look forward to how GM along with other companies and policymakers will continue working together and pushing forward to take action on climate change. #GettingItDone
