Global Intel chip shortage-- and why it matters to you
Intel apologizes for supply challenges
We already know that Intel chip shortages are severely impacting laptop and desktop shipping timeframes. What we've learned from them recently -- is that it's not getting any better.
You can read Intel’s full statement here on the challenges to the supply-demand side of their business.
“Supply remains extremely tight in our PC business where we are operating with limited inventory buffers.”
-Michelle Johnston Holthaus, EVP Intel
Why it matters to you:
- Despite some improvements, Intel’s chip shortage is set to continue into at least February 2020
- This creates even longer lead times for production and delivery of laptops and desktops from major manufacturers like Lenovo and HP
- At GadellNet, we are seeing orders take an additional 1-2 weeks, sometimes more, depending on the hardware needed
How to combat the shortages:
- People operations: Assess your new hire and asset refresh plans for EOY and into next quarter
- Emergency situations: Know what you will do in times of emergency: does a spare laptop or desktop on hand make sense for you?
- End-of-life computers: Make a plan for all Windows 7 devices before the Jan 14, 2020 end-of-life deadline
