Germany and Australia partner up to strengthen Vocational Training and Education in Mongolia to build a workforce fit for the future!

Ulaanbaatar. 🌏 On June 11, 2024, The Australian Embassy and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) signed a partnership agreement to jointly support technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Mongolia.

Already since 2013, GIZ has been supporting the reform of Mongolia’s vocational training on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in close cooperation with Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science (MEDS).

A primary goal of the “Cooperative TVET II” project has been to make sure that funding reaches those institutions that best prepare Mongolians for the demands of industry and the job-market. This goes hand in hand with another reform target: To strengthen the role companies play in technical education by introducing dual TVET programs. These programs combine training at schools with more practical insights at the company-level.

In addition to 2 million EUR provided by the BMZ, the Australian Government’s contribution of 2.4 mill. AUD (1.48 mill EUR) marks a milestone for two reasons:

  • The project will now be able to develop market and practice-oriented training programs in the field of renewable energies.
  • It will put a new focus on promoting a gender sensitive learning environment.

Once realized, both will go a long way towards creating a skilled workforce in Mongolia, ready to meet the demands of modern industries.
