Euro 2016 Kicks Off Marketing Battle for Big Brands

Euro 2016 Kicks Off Marketing Battle for Big Brands

With Euro 2016 kicking off in France this Friday, we took a look at what some of the world’s biggest brands are up to when it comes to getting involved in this summer’s marketing hype.

The main sponsors for the tournament are: Adidas, Carlsberg, Continental Tyres, Coca-Cola, Hyundai/Kia, McDonald’s, Orange, Socar and Turkish Airlines.

It’s interesting to see companies from emerging markets getting involved as well as the longer established brands. Particularly Chinese electronics company Hisense, a brand barely known in Europe.

Euro 2016 is likely to have a large impact closer to home in the UK. This is down to the fact that all the home nations (except Scotland of course) have qualified for the tournament.

It’s fair to say that Euro 2016 is expected to be one of the biggest ever football tournaments in terms of marketing activity. So, what have leading brands been showing off ahead of the opening game on the 10th June?

Here are my Top 3 Euro 2016 Marketing Campaigns!

Mars

England stars Welbeck, Kane and Premier League winner Vardy lead an armada of fans across the channel in Mars’ £5m campaign. This is just too cool. Good effort Mars!

Orange

Orange say they are taking a ‘different approach’ from the usual big brand strategy of focusing on “star players” by instead placing the fans at the centre of activity.

The ‘Orange Sponsors You’ campaign will feature the king of French football Zinédine Zidane, who will help select the ‘world’s ultimate fans’.

Legend Zidane will send ‘scouts’ around the globe to help Orange to find the world’s most die-hard supporters for the campaign. Orange will bring twenty winners to watch the final at the Stade de France. Clever campaign for engagement!
