One of the significant challenges in construction planning lies in the communication gap, which often leads to underreported performance. The actual measure of performance rests in the numbers of productivity achieved. Drawing from my 30 years of experience, I have seen how this gap can hinder correct performance evaluation, resulting in a distorted view of project progress.

Managers and planners prioritize their own goals over the priorities of the staff or engineers involved in production. This disconnect can cause delays in updating project schedules, directly affecting timelines and costs. Resource idling and shortages can be avoided through rescheduling non-critical works or optimized resource allocation if the impact of delays were known well in advance. However, manual schedule updates, especially for complex L4 schedules, prove to be challenging. This compromise in scheduling and delayed updating is the root cause of many project issues.

In traditional construction planning, checking and updating project schedules typically occur quarterly or monthly during review meetings. Unfortunately, this infrequency blinds us to the daily progress and its impact on the overall schedule. We often become aware of delays only after they have occurred. Consequently, we miss implementing prompt mitigation measures. Fortunately, with the advancements in coding skills within the construction industry, we can now turn this dream into reality.
