There is this great Nina Simone quote: “An artist’s duty is to reflect the times.” At JP, we believe our duty is also to reflect the ever-evolving needs of our families, to embrace change.
In our society, change often comes with a tinge of sadness, overshadowing the joy it can bring. We lament aging but forget the profound joy in growing wiser and learning from our mistakes. We romanticize and overvalue youth, neglecting the joy of decades-long relationships that have carried us through life’s rainy seasons.
Change is undeniably challenging, but it is also inevitable. As JP turns 25 and we complete our five-year strategic plan, we celebrate the journey traveled and the road ahead. Our commitment lies in reflecting the times — the needs of the 2,000-plus JP moms and kids we’re supporting in 2023.
To do so, we must listen with intent and demonstrate a commitment to being effective, rather than solely seeking to be right. This belief is at the core of our semi-annual, anonymous Family Experience Survey, in which over 80% of our families participate. It is a powerful tool that ensures we remain aligned with the evolving needs of our families.
Change may be hard, but as Maya Angelou once said, “When you know better, do better.”
