#dayinthelife at IFS A&D

As I've had the opportunity to quickly visit family and friends this past weekend and ahead of scheduled meetings in Europe this week, I've had to answer few times the following question: “How’s your new job? What are you doing again?”.

Once I went over the basics of presenting my role, the "fun" was to describe what IFS Aerospace & Defense solutions are delivering on a daily basis and how I could put this in a very simple perspective for them. Please note: my parents are over 65 and most of my friends are not working in IT.

My parents are visiting us in Toronto usually once year and will get on a plane…I had my example and started with the following: Would you be happy if your flight was delayed by three hours because the last minute maintenance on your plane is not done on time ? I highlighted the complexity of today’s business of a commercial airline (maybe the one they are flying with when travelling to stay with us): a constant balancing act between profitability and customer satisfaction, without compromising safety and compliance. One mind blowing side note for reference, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) expects air passenger growth to double by 2035, with an anticipated 7.2 billion people to travel by air over the next 20 years.

By taking a small example such as replacing a coffee pot or a armrest while at the gate with the right personnel and tools, to the overhaul of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner scheduling and planning tasks associated, they were able to put a picture (more like a massive puzzle) and understood the complexity of putting people, process and technology together under one unique software (provided by IFS indeed).

On a side note, they were pleased to see I was happy to do what I love, to see I am excited by the challenges and the team that I am working with every day.
