TeleGeography’s Cloud Map – Valuable Tool

Want to know which of the world’s top 6 cloud providers (AWS, Google, IBM, Azure, Oracle, Alibaba) are available in your area and what data centers provide hosting and on-ramps? Try TeleGeography’s new free tool. You can search by the major metro area on the list or by clicking on the map. It lists 122 data centers in Asia and 98 in the US and Canada. It also reveals that US and China have the most cloud availability zones: 65 and 55, respectively. The top 6 platforms covered by the map opened 19 new regions this year, while announcing the plans for 29 more by 2022.

 

 

Digital Realty’s Future Cloud Campus in NVA

Digital Realty’s plan for the world’s largest multi-tenant data center campus on a 424-acre plot near Dulles Airport will effectively cement its domination in the global data center hub of Loudoun Co., VA for the foreseeable future. The Digital Dulles campus will create 7.5M SF of new data center space, divided between 11 buildings, ranging from 525K SF to 766K SF in size, over a 15-year period. Pandemic-induced digital acceleration fueled a 26% increase in leased capacity in Q2 of 2020 (48 MW) over the previous two quarters combined (38 MW).

 


Cell Tower Companies Pursue Edge Computing

Yesterday we reported on the growth of the cell tower companies, today’s article takes a deeper dive into the subject, following two of the nation’s biggest cell tower operators’ ambitions in edge computing. American Tower and SBA Communications have made significant infrastructure investments, with the latter recently acquiring 280K SF JaxNAP data center in Jacksonville, FL, with interconnections to 20 fiber providers, including subsea telecom routes for international communications.
