Clarity Hero: Bryan Mosier, CTRS

"A crisis can create a leader. Last year amid the Corona Pandemic, Therapeutic Recreation lost nearly 50% of their staff, including the Director. A vacuum like that can be a difficult one to fill. There was a lot of thought and planning on how to re-design Therapeutic Recreation into a more integrated part of the treatment team. A cornerstone would be a TR Lead position that had the day to day responsibility of increasing services on both the weekday and weekends and integrate the department into the program on the Units.

"Bryan Mosier stepped into that vacuum, at first admittedly with some hesitancy; taking a new role at the Center that was a hybrid of front line staff and department organizer. He was at the forefront of new hiring, bringing on novice TR therapists: Madison, Dory and Michael, many of whom were interns at Clarity and made up for what they might lack in experience with high energy and enthusiasm. It cannot be left unwritten that the steadiness of staff who stayed, Edward and Amanda kept the wheels turning amidst all the changes. The addition of Elise Hawkes, as a Music Therapist rounded out the department and connected TR even more deeply with the units.

"This was accomplished by Bryan remaining close to his first passion, the direct care with the patients and honing his skills at getting the best fit of TR staff to the variety of units."

- Rick Edwards, LPC, Director of In Patient Clinical Services

When asked what being the Recreational Therapist Lead at Clarity means to him, Bryan Mosier, CTRS, said "Doing the best that I can to helps kids and coworkers have what they need to be successful. Supporting my team when exploring new activities, while encouraging creativity, positive attitude and ideas on verbal processing."

Bryan's proudest moments in his role include:

  • When his team stepped up despite being short staffed late August/September, and completed more groups and assessments per person than ever done before, and
  • His team's upbeat and positive attitude amongst the long days, half being newer staff, some working two jobs, with people being out due to injuries or surgeries and COVID-19 restrictions/scares.

Way to go Bryan and the entire Therapeutic Recreation team from all of us on your perseverance and commitment to the kids and families at Clarity!
