8yMark, great article on the difficulties CIOs and CISOs face in today’s world. I’d be interested to talk more about how the CIO could broaden their reach in an organization, and what roadblocks may arise when they try to. I was recently reading a report from CEB about business led IT initiatives, and it says CIOs spend 93% of their yearly budget on incremental improvements, compliance, maintenance, and operations; resulting in most IT experimentation occurring outside the CIO’s budget and at individual business units. Do you think that business-led IT purchases are creating more “doors” for hackers to access an organization through? Would a smaller group of vendors or a unified platform for an organization save money in IT maintenance, and/or create a tighter cybersecurity system? Be interested to hear your thoughts…
