Achieving Radical Resiliency

Achieving Radical Resiliency

In our current tech landscape, dealing with cybersecurity incidents like ransomware and other disasters is unavoidable. To keep your business running, you need to be able to take disruptions and cyberattacks in stride. This means being able to not just bounce back from an outage or data loss situation — but bounce forward each time. This is at the heart of radical resiliency and is the driver behind everything we do here at Veeam. Read on to learn more about how to make your organization more radically resilient, no matter what comes your way.

Stay Ahead of the Curve

As cybersecurity threats and ransomware attacks continue to increase and evolve, it’s critical that you stay ahead of the curve when it comes to keeping up with cybersecurity trends. Cyberthreats are evolving into more sinister and dangerous variants in 2024, and they won’t wait for you to catch up. Some of the top cybersecurity trends for 2024 include using zero trust principles like adopting authentication systems, passkeys, and password-less technologies, including AI-enabled detection tools to help circumvent bad actors.

This year, keep an eye out for AI-powered malware and attacks on your backups. Also note that social engineering tactics backed by AI are getting better at fooling unsuspecting victims, and nation-state bad actors are also using cyberattacks to infiltrate countries they consider adversaries.

Cloud Protection Trends Report 2024

Speaking of trends, a major trend reflected in the 2024 Data Protection Trends report was the increased shift toward using Backup as a Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS). This interest in BaaS and DRaaS has only grown year over year, and our Cloud Protection Trends Report for 2024 intends to dive deeper into the reasons behind it.

At the end of the day, there isn’t a universal “best” option for cloud data protection — it all depends on your IT team’s skillset, what systems you already have in place, and where your data is already located. Looking into why other companies have chosen their own specific configurations can be a key step toward securing a service that works best for your own specific needs.

Reduce Cyber Risk

Earlier, we discussed how quickly cybercriminals are evolving their tactics to continue trying to circumvent data protection strategies in organizations like yours. Recently, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 came out. This version has evolved significantly to not only encapsulate current best practices and security principles but provide a forward-thinking and flexible blueprint to help organizations to safeguard their systems. This way, when an attack happens, organizations can take it more in stride. Version 2.0 sought to include a sixth best practice, Govern, to account for the overall management and governance of cybersecurity risk, including defining roles and responsibilities and integrating cybersecurity into enterprise risk management.

Other key enhancements include:

  • Extending the framework beyond critical infrastructure sectors to benefit all organizations, regardless of size or industry.
  • A stronger emphasis on managing cybersecurity risk in the supply chain and integrate it into an organization’s cybersecurity program.

Enhance Incident Response and Ransomware Protection

Last month Veeam announced our acquisition of Coveware, a leading ransomware incident response firm. Now we’re excited to announce the launch of Coveware within our own cyber secure program! This new solution will bring industry-leading cyber-extortion incident response services and enterprise preparedness to our existing ransomware and recovery capabilities. We also launched Veeam Kasten V7.0 this month at Red Hat Summit 2024! With over 30 new features and enhancements, this version of Kasten brings enhanced ransomware protection, including integrations with Microsoft Sentinel and broadened enterprise integration opportunities for larger Kubernetes application platforms. If you're interested in learning more, we have a webinar coming up on May 29 that will cover all the ins and outs of this new release.

If you really want to maximize your data resiliency, join us at VeeamON 2024 either virtually or in Ft. Lauderdale, FL from June 3–5. This year’s conference will feature keynotes, new product announcements, deep dive demos, networking opportunities and more!

Every day, we demonstrate to our clients how Veeam assists in data resilience. When we show the importance coupled with the low investment cost, clients gain traction to adopt best practices, such as the golden rule of Backup 3-2-1-1-0, allowing us to perform all necessary resilience activities. The biggest challenge we encounter is reaching clients in time to demonstrate the importance of resilience before they suffer from successful hacker attacks. The most important phrase I like to highlight to our clients is: "Backup, all backup tools execute, but the guarantee of data validation, immutability, security, and recovery—Veeam delivers this differently from all others."
