8 ways ChatGPT can support the Health Sector.

I rarely get excited about technology, but if you are not across ChatGPT and Microsoft's plans to infuse this into everything it’s doing, then you need to sit up and take notice! Working as a coach within health I see first-hand how demanding providing services are for many health care professionals. So, when something like ChatGPT offers tangible ways to help and support the sector, those in positions to do something need to realise how this could ease the load for health professionals and jump on board!

Like the internet was revolutionary, ChatGPT will be even more so. ChatGPT can not only read and understand text, version 4 can understand images, review scans, it even learns how to be empathic, building its emotional intelligence by understanding how people are communicating.

Here are just 8 ways ChatGPT could help the health sector, some of these come directly from ChatGPT and some from Bernard Marr.

  1. Diagnosis and Treatment Recommendations: ChatGPT4 can help healthcare professionals make accurate and timely diagnosis by analysing patient symptoms and medical history. It can also provide treatment recommendations based on evidence-based medicine, clinical guidelines and best practices.
  2. Medical recordkeeping: ChatGPT can be used to generate automated summaries of patient interactions and medical histories, which can help streamline the medical recordkeeping process. With ChatGPT, doctors and nurses can dictate their notes, and the model can automatically summarize key details, including symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments. Medical professionals can also use ChatGPT to extract relevant information from patient records, such as lab results or imaging reports.
  3. Patient triage: ChatGPT can be used to triage patients by asking them questions about their symptoms and medical history to determine the urgency and severity of their condition.
  4. Patient Education and Counselling: ChatGPT can provide patients with accurate information about their condition and treatment options, helping to improve their understanding of their health and encourage them to be more involved in their care.
  5. Clinical Decision Support: ChatGPT can provide decision support tools to help healthcare professionals make informed decisions about patient care, such as prescribing medications or ordering diagnostic tests.
  6. Research and Data Analysis: ChatGPT can assist healthcare professionals in analysing large amounts of data and identifying patterns, trends, and correlations that can help in improving patient outcomes and treatment effectiveness.
  7. Administrative Support: ChatGPT can help healthcare professionals manage administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, processing insurance claims, and managing patient records, allowing them to focus more on patient care.
  8. Remote patient monitoring: Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is an increasingly popular way to improve patient outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. ChatGPT can be used to monitor patients remotely by analysing data from wearables, sensors, and other monitoring devices, providing real-time insights into a patient's health status. ChatGPT can analyse this data and provide alerts to healthcare providers if a patient's condition deteriorates or if there are other concerning trends. This can help healthcare providers intervene early and prevent hospitalisations or other complications.

Investing in ChatGPT now and figuring out how this AI technology can be transformative must be super exciting for those already on this journey. And for those that aren’t – hop on board, this will change your industry regardless of whether you are surfing the wave or tumbling in the swell.

From a leadership coaching perspective, developing strategic thinking, innovative impact, digital curiosity and problem solving are capabilities Leaders need today and into the future. Accessing these knowledge and skills around ChatCGP may be one way to differentiate great leadership from those simply in BAU mode.
