6 Reasons You Should Work with a Recruiter

The time has come to look for a new job. Maybe you get let go, maybe you feel unfulfilled, or maybe you just want to see what else is out there. You make a cup of coffee, turn on the computer, and google a few key words. You start reading, and instantly you are hit with a wave of questions.

Where should I start? Who is hiring? Does this company have a good reputation? Can I thrive and grow here? If I submit my resume, will I ever hear back? Or will I become the random sock that gets eaten and lost in my dryer?

We’ve all been there, and we understand looking for a job can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Working with a recruiter can be a game changer, and here is 6 reasons why!

1 - Client Relationships

How many times have you applied to a job board or company website and never heard back? Your resume sits in a queue, along with a ton of others, until someone makes the time to sit and filter through the applicants.

The benefit of working with a recruiter is that they have direct, constant, and open communication with their clients. They can get your resume to the top of the list and make sure that it is seen! Whether it be the owner, principal, or Director of HR, a standard is set on the front end that if a candidate is presented, feedback is expected within a timely fashion.

2 - Access to Unlisted Jobs

How often have you researched a company and written it off completely when you do not see a job posted for your skill set?

This is a very big part of a recruiter’s job that most job seekers don’t realize. More often than not, recruiters are working on exclusive openings and are able recognize skill sets that are highly desired. A recruiter will be able to point you towards the opportunities that are more difficult to find and even more importantly, those that are not regularly advertised.

3 - Reduce Stress

Let’s face it, searching for a job can be stressful. Why not let someone else do some of the leg work?

Recruiters are there to work for you and have your best interest at heart. They are your consultant and will be your biggest advocate. It is easy to get overwhelmed by all the applications or the back and forth of dealing with a potential employer. And let’s not forget that you may already be employed, have a family, or have other obligations. As a recruiter our job is to spend 8+ hours a day trying to find you the perfect match!

4 - Interview Preparation

Most people are not “pro’s” at interviewing. In a perfect world, you go on a handful of interviews in a lifetime.

This step is big, and recruiters are there to provide you with the right ammunition to win the interview. A recruiter will not only walk you through resume review and logistics, but they will provide insight on the structure of the interview and most importantly, the intangibles. Information regarding the personality of the interviewer, the office culture, and the company values cannot always be identified through a job description. Those qualities can make all the difference.

5 - Compensation and Negotiation

Recruiters know your value. They know the ins and outs of the market, your level of experience, and what their clients are willing to pay.

A common misconception is that a recruiter will always try to low ball you, and that could not be further from the truth; in many cases, the more money a job seeker makes, the more money the recruiter makes. It is always in their best interest to get you the best compensation package possible without pricing you out of an opportunity and being fair to their clients.

6 - Search Passively

Just because you decide to speak with and entertain a recruiter, does not mean you are actively looking for a new opportunity. In most cases, it is not until 6 months, a year, or even longer before that “perfect opportunity” comes across a recruiter’s desk. It is their job to gain an understanding of the motivations within your career and pinpoint exactly what you are looking for, that way when the time comes, the connection is there for the recruiter to reach out and present you with your ideal opportunity.

Wouldn’t you want to know if your dream job popped up right down the road from your house, with the right responsibilities, and better compensation? Well, if you don’t speak with a recruiter, you might never hear about it!

The phrase “you can’t fit a square peg into a round hole” comes to mind. As a recruiter we understand that, apart from your health, your home and your family, your career is one of the most important things in your life. We are here to walk you through the process and make your experience as easy and as pleasant as possible.
