The masked images to be converted into "machine readable" data and then to "machine understandable". Eventually, the source data is populated into EDC.

Site Data Processing - Paper Binder
Usually, trial related data are not necessarily captured in EMR. Instead, clinical research coordinator (CRC, a.k.a study nurse) collect and organized them into a patient binder (paper), and enter them into sponsor assigned EDC system. This is a tedious and time-consuming process creating a lot of burden to sites. To ensure quality, CROs send CRA to the sites for conducting Source Data Verification (SDV). This on-site manual review process costs at least $5k/visit and inefficient.
