So McDonalds is ending their AI ordering trial. Does that mean an end to the endless TikTok examples of funny AI order fails? Or does it mean they have seen enough to know with some tweaks it will make an even more efficient process than ever. And are working through the savings… Coupled with a mass of data about your prior orders gleaned from matching you by voice recognition, I am sure before long we will all be ordering with AI. But for now, seeing funny yet accidental orders of burgers with ice cream will have to suffice. 🍔 #ArtificialIntelligence https://lnkd.in/gv7N-Nu4

📉 McDonald's recent AI drive-thru trial might seem like a failure, but there's more to the story. Human error rates in drive-thrus are significant, with McDonald's themselves at 12% according to a recent report looking into the industry from QSR & Intouch Insight - https://lnkd.in/eRaHBKxx This small-scale trial (~0.002% of locations) was about learning and improving, trying to get cost-saving and as a by-product better customer service. The data gathered will be invaluable for their future AI developments, showing McDonald's commitment to innovation and improvement. No bad thing for any company. Remember, no experiment truly fails—it all contributes to progress. #AIDriveThru #Innovation #McDonalds #AIAdvancement #LLMs #FutureOfAI

Two points… 1. The only critique of the AI solution in this article is its inability to understand a broad range of accents and correctly place the order. 2. This is where AI integrity MUST be integrated into your AI solution! Did the AI system notify an employee of how confident it was that it correctly placed the customer’s order? Did the employee make the needed corrections in real time so the system could learn and do better the next time? At techolution, we integrate this capability into all of our AI solutions. It’s Reinforcement Learning through Expert Feedback and it’s the best way for your organization to approach AI - by teaching it how to do the job better just like you would a new employee. Our DoD customers can learn more about how we integrate this capability through the Tradewinds marketplace here: https://lnkd.in/gDnNM3e9 That’s real world AI, that’s AI done right!

Lots of interesting things to unpack here whether you’re an investor or technologist. The big one on my radar is language and ML model accuracy. I was talking to a senior product leader about this just last week and how language - written or spoken (or signed?) - you simply cannot underestimate the importance of dialects and slang on successful AI/ML responses (and in explainablity). #ai #machinelearning

Is AI even useful for the average consumer? Despite rapidly advancing technology, LLM's and voice technology is still in a race to ultra-low latency to make it more usable in a consumer facing way. People are also just massively confused by the idea of AI, if it's not 1:1 to a person, it doesn't work. Check out this article for a great case study: https://lnkd.in/e4f5Pgxj Most companies trying to leverage AI struggle to do it in a way that brings any value. It's a real challenge outside of summarizing a call or providing suggestions when writing content. It takes a lot of time and thought to create an AI solution that adds value, removes work, and is cohesive within an existing product. We're definitely still working on it, but I think my team is definitely moving in the right direction. I'm proud that we've been able to create a solution with AI that really adds value.
