I’m a proud Australian and passionate about the food and beverage industry. It has supported me and my family for many years. So it’s stories like Norco Co-operative Limited's Lismore ice cream factory rebuild that remind me of the power of resilience and the importance of strong leadership. Just over 18 months ago, the heritage-listed Lismore factory, a cornerstone of Norco - one of Australia's oldest dairy companies, was left inoperable due to devastating floods. The impact was significant, not just on the factory but on the entire community, with 170 workers stood down and a repair bill mounting to $141.8 million. It was a challenging period, reflecting the broader struggles within Australia's dairy industry. Why am I sharing this? Beyond a remarkable turnaround driven by commitment and community spirit, 130 dedicated employees are now returning to their roles. This story is about more than a reopening; it's a celebration of tenacity. It’s a statement of faith in Norco’s workforce and the future. It’s about setting a precedent for the future of Australia's dairy industry. It's about leaders who can navigate through uncertainty and emerge stronger, more resilient. In these times, the role of strong, commercially astute leaders is undeniably crucial. Leaders like Norco's CEO, Michael Hampson, who demonstrate bold decision-making, a readiness to take risks, and an unwavering commitment to their community, are the bedrock on which successful recoveries are built. I wanted to share some reflections about last Sunday's event. We didn't win any medals this year, and that's perfectly alright. I've always maintained that winning isn't everything. In fact, I genuinely believe that Sunday's performance was the best we've ever had at this event, or any event for that matter. My representative was quite upset about not winning because she put all her heart and soul into this. It's natural to feel that way, but I sent her the message below to help her see things from a different perspective. I explained to her that our victory isn't confined to just one night or event. We win every day through our dedication, teamwork, and the sheer effort we put into our work. Our success isn't measured by medals or awards, but by the impact we make, the growth we experience, and the satisfaction of knowing we did our best. This philosophy has guided us well and will continue to. Always take pride in your efforts and keep striving for excellence in our unique way. Remember to always compliment and value your team each and everyday. As a side note, it's worth mentioning that we received over 200 tags and reposts on social media that same night. This really illustrates that awards like buckles aren't the ultimate measure of success.
