Interesting insights on the importance of grooming one's skill in litigation practice. Litigation practice teaches strategy. Unlike what the SC has said about litigation not being a fencing match; litigation is actually a ⚔️ fight between hired swordsmen (lawyers). It teaches strategies that are also useful for life.

We published our 2022 Grantmaking Report, which tells the story of our funding for the year. Our President & CEO Nichole June Maher outlines three key themes to emerge during our third full year of grantmaking: 1️⃣ Multiyear grants sustain communities and build trust. 2️⃣ Investing in more 501(c)(4) work means more space for advocacy and building power. 3️⃣ Inatai has room to grow in terms of refining our systems and processes. Be sure to check out the report for a deeper dive into these key points and see what's on the horizon for us in funding power-building across our state. https://lnkd.in/g_zm-ZbX

I am so disheartened with the #FearlessFund decision. This past week, a U.S. appeals court blocked the venture firm from awarding $20k grants to Black women entrepreneurs. The judges ruled that the grant is "likely to violate" Title 42, which ensures #equal rights under law, prohibiting the use of race when awarding contracts. This decesion is based on a 1866 law designed to provide economic freedom to formerly enslaved people. That law is what was used to stop the Fund from providing grants to Black women. This Law?!! How. Is. This. Happening. Black women founders received less than 1% of funding (0.34%) in 2021. Glen Galaich shared some stats to prove how insane this decesion is-280B invested through venture capital. Nearly all of it in white owned businesses.$25M invested in Black women owned businesses. That. Is.The.Facts. Im praying and standing with the Fearless Fund team and every diverse founder.

From the beginning, Darrow’s mandate has always been about doing well by doing good. But this is not some empty ESG slogan. Our platform has already uncovered hundreds of potential violations resulting in active litigation work totalling over $10 billion in damages for millions of victims. We’re talking about environmental claims against companies that harm communities who are unaware their illness has been caused by pollution in their water, air or land. We’re talking about healthcare providers that share patients’ most private medical information, which can lead to health-driven targeted advertising, identity theft, financial loss, discrimination and stigma, mental anguish, and other serious negative consequences to their reputation, health and physical safety. We’re talking about banks and financial institutions that practice discriminatory lending and underwriting on the basis of race, perpetuating and reinforcing generations of inequality. We’re talking about employers who systematically pay male workers more than female workers, and companies that overcharge their unknowing, trusting customers. We’re talking about pension funds that squander hard working people out of their retirement savings, so they’re left with nothing in their old age. Darrow helps level the playing field — not just for plaintiff’s firms in terms of the data that is available to them, but for the victims themselves. While every major corporation has a dedicated counsel that is actively looking out for their best interest at all times, the average person does not have a legal team in their corner. That is, until now. Darrow proactively searches for these violations. We do this by monitoring global events and acting in the public’s best interest, connecting cases with litigation teams that will get people the justice they deserve. This is our vision — a world where everyone trusts that every legal violation is swiftly discovered, precisely valued, and efficiently resolved.
