Thinking about a trip to AK? Pulseline has some awesome deals for Cyber Monday week...
I often get questions about Alaska from people and here are some of the most common - with some answers:
1. Do I have to be a pro-level rider to come to Alaska? Not at all. Many people only see Alaska in films and on YouTube with the best riders in the world. While we do have this type of terrain (and the snow is often stable enough to ride it) - Alaska has it all, from gently rolling glaciers for miles, to intermediate level runs, to runs that look like your average expert run in Colorado, or Utah, to the gnar - they just don't have any people. We can accommodate skiers that are advanced intermediate and above - and we have people of all ages - from 13 or 14 all the way up to late 70s.
2. Why the Chugach mountains in Alaska? Well, there are so many reasons, but a few of mine are: I think it offers the most interesting and fun ski terrain in the world. It snows there a lot - like in the most snow on average of any mountain range in the world. It is relatively stable - the Coastal microclimate and the deep snow means that unlike many mountainous zones, we often have more stable avalanche conditions which allow for us to ski larger and steeper slopes. There are literally many lifetimes of possibilities for runs - I've been going to Alaska for almost 20 years, and I am still regularly skiing runs I have never skied before, many of which may be first descents. It is still true wilderness - we have over 3 million square acres of terrain - most of which are many miles from the nearest road or trail. It is an incredibly special experience to experience this vast wilderness, even for short period. And the people that make the journey to this part of the world whether for a season, many years, or just for a trip, tend to be a unique breed of awesome.
3. Do I have to jump out of the helicopter or jump off cliffs. The answer to both is a resounding no! We never jump out of the helicopter. And while you can jump off a cliff potentially if your guide is cool with it - it is never required.
Anyway, if your looking for a unique ski trip this year - I highly recommend you check out Alaska. And if your coming to AK, Pulseline is simply the best around.
