Today (7/4) marks the 85th anniversary of New York Yankees longtime first baseman Lou Gehrig’s famous words: “For the past two weeks, you have been reading about a bad break. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” Please take a moment to watch the archival footage of this iconic speech, courtesy of Major League Baseball (MLB), which still resonates today. I started my day yesterday deciding I need to learn more about Jackie Robinson. Who knew that he played and lettered in 4 sports that were not baseball which, btw, he said was his worst sport? Who knew he moonlighted as a tennis player and won tournaments? Or that he played football? Or exercised his political preferences? His strength, talent, and guts were off the charts, and the post-sports career that he created was impressive, too. It's all in this piece.

Just because Indiana doesn't have a Major League Baseball team doesn't mean the national pastime isn't steeped in our history. We're home to dozens of minor league, independent league, and semi-pro teams all across the state, and have been home to numerous clubs that are now defunct. Read our latest post to learn more about the rich history of baseball in Indiana! https://lnkd.in/ggUiwfCK

Anybody else see a GIANT missed opportunity here? MGM and Circa Resort & Casino are both sponsors of the Golden Knights. What I'm wondering is why there's no logo on this slot machine? I immediately noticed and my activation brain went crazy. Idk if there's some sort of rule against it or what, but if not, this was a massive missed opportunity for any casino related brand. I did notice that it's Circa Sports which is their sports book. Perhaps the MGM was just for resorts, not too sure. Either way, I feel there should've been some sort of sponsor representation on that slot machine. Do you have insight? Thoughts of your own to share? #sponsorship #sponsorshipmarketing #marketing
When Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley brought an NHL team to Las Vegas, he said his goal was "Cup in six" — to win the Stanley Cup within six seasons. The Golden Knights did it in their sixth season — becoming the youngest team to win a Stanley Cup in over 50 years. At their home opener, the team unveiled its first-ever Stanley Cup banner... using a giant slot machine.

The Phillies now have the two hardest throwing left-handed pitchers in the game with Jose Alvarado and now Gregory Soto, whose average FB Velo is 98.7mph. It may be easy to think the main reason he was traded for is due to his high octane FB, what if we told you the real reason he is so elite may have more to do with this pitch, his slider? Since being acquired by the Phillies before the 2023 season, Soto has changed his pitch usage, where he now throws his Slider way more (40-50%), almost as often as he throws his Sinker. But why do this when he throws the FB so hard? Well, let's look at something that is way more indicative of effectiveness than velocity, xWOBA! Soto SNK xWOBA: .293 Soto SL xWOBA: .219! Remember, high velocity fastballs doesn't automatically mean it is the pitchers' best offering. We need to ask more questions, and use more information to optimize everyone's arsenal. We can learn a lot from sports. The way the Boston team was built showcases excellent management vision and planning. It's intriguing to see a team formed 100% by trade skills. In the famous trade of 2013, the Boston Celtics traded their best players to the Brooklyn Nets for an unwanted player alongside future Draft Picks. At that time, the trade seemed to favor Brooklyn. However, Boston had a different vision. The future Draft Picks (2016 & 2017) that people initially thought was a foolish decision back in 2013, led them to acquire their best 2 players in their current team: Jaylen Brown & Jayson Tatum. This strategic move resulted in taking the team to 6 conference finals, 2 NBA finals, 1 Championship ring, and 1 player holding a finals MVP and the largest contract in the history of the sport. They both have at least 10 more years to go at top level, and might end up as one of the best duos in the history of the sport. In contrast, Brooklyn Nets has not achieved anything remarkable since the trade in 2013. The story of these two teams post-trade serves as a powerful lesson in strategic planning and long-term vision. 🏀 #SportsManagement #TeamBuilding #StrategicPlanning

If you're going to talk about an Ace in the Royals rotation... it's time to start talking about Seth Lugo as that man. Rany Jazayerli (Co-Founder Baseball Prospectus/@Jazayerli) and Soren Petro (Sports Radio 810-WHB, 810whb.com/@SorenPetro) welcome David Lesky (Inside the Crown/@DBLesky) to pinch hit for Petro and discuss the recent dominance of Seth Lugo and more. - How good can Seth Lugo be? - Is this going to be a historic season for Bobby Witt Jr.? - Of course there'll be a check of the Playoff Optimism Meter. - How deep is the rotation now and how deep will it be? - Can Dairon Blanco be one of the answers in the OF? - What's the plan with Renfroe/Frazier/Hampson?

Working for a company with a strong diversity and inclusion program, being on the neurodiverse spectrum myself, it is always great to see examples where groups address diversity and inclusion as well. Great job Rays! Education of employees, avenues to allow diversity and inclusion of employees is the first step. The evolution to a difference is when this experience shows up in your customer experience or changes how you include and embrace differences in your customers or fans face to face, online, and over the phone (diversity inclusion is not just one layer, it is a multilayered approach to employees, workplace, tools, and all aspects of customer experience).
Yes, we’re Baltimore Orioles fans, yet we couldn’t be any more appreciative of the Tampa Bay Rays welcoming Cal to their #autism sensory room. 🙏 #tampa #tampabay #autismawareness Major League Baseball (MLB)
