🇸🇰🇺🇸 The interest of Slovaks in the land of their ancestors continues to grow. The +421 Foundation, based in NYC, helps connect them with their homeland. The ✴️ amendment to the Slovak Citizenship Act ✴️ that went into effect two years ago (April 2022) played a significant role. It offered the opportunity to apply for Slovak citizenship if a person meets the 3rd generation limit. 🇸🇰🇺🇸 However, as Eva Staronova says, the +421 Foundation, would like to make another option available under the amendment. This is to obtain citizenship on the basis of ✴️ significant contribution ✴️ to the Slovak community. For example, to finance the restoration of a cultural monument. But so far, there are no mechanism to use these resources from America. 🇸🇰🇺🇸 There are approximately ✴️ one million people in the United States ✴️ who generally claim Slovak ancestry. They can obtain an SLA certificate, i.e. a certificate of Slovak Living Abroad, by demonstrating active involvement in the Slovak community, interest in Slovak culture, language study, etc. They can approach partner organizations, such as Global Slovakia (Dr Zuzana Palovic), or the Slovak-American Cultural Center. The process of equipping them is quite basic. 💡Did you know that Angelina Jolie, Jon Bon Jovi or Paul Newman have Slovak roots? 💡 Thx for a great coop, Novotný Pavel! #slovaksabroad #slovakia #ancestors #americanhistory #slovakcitizenship #brandslovakia Dr Zuzana Palovic Gabriela Bereghazyova Ján Falath Lea-Ann Germinder, M.S., APR, Fellow PRSA Milan Vrbovsky ivan surkos Martin Horváth Michal H. I'm an immigrant in a country for losers. Living in a first-world country as a foreigner undoubtedly offers a wealthier life. However, what many people fail to recognize is that wealth isn't always measured in monetary terms. In the Netherlands, the work culture offers something far more valuable than just money. It provides its workers with the opportunity to be recognized as human beings, rather than just cogs in a machine. The well-being and work-life balance of employees are frequently addressed in most Dutch companies, while in capitalist periphery countries, your value is based on how much you can dehumanize yourself to produce more. In countries like Brazil, asking for basic rights at work could result in being ridiculed or, in worse cases, being fired. It's even worse for women and people of colour. While this may result in increased productivity for some companies in certain fields, it creates a society of addicts, trying to cope with becoming a machine. The work culture is a symptom of, and at the same time, one of the primary engines of inequality. If systematic inequality is not bad enough for you, here's how it affects you on a personal level: Even if you become successful enough to be above that system, you cannot be reassured that your friends and family are safe, healthy, and at peace. The more successful you are, the bigger the target on your back for violence. The Netherlands' working system has done two things that most other countries, even European neighbours, have failed to do. First, it tailors the office environment and working hours to each worker's specific needs and wants. Second, it's constantly checking on employee well-being and mental health, while considering their relationships with each other. The Dutch work system also allows a significant part of your income to be left over after necessary expenses. I've heard that the Netherlands is a small country with a small workforce, which is why it's "forced" to treat its workers well and learn English to welcome foreigners. If that is the case, then at least in this regard, I can be grateful for the way things are and how lucky I am. Clickbait controversial title huh 🌚 Here you can learn more about why you never want to live in a country for "Winners": #culture #mentalhealth #brazil #society #productivity #immigrantstories

#𝑝𝘦𝘨𝘢 🇨🇱, #𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘰 🇦🇷, #𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘢 🇲🇽... What do these three colloquial terms have in common? That they all stand for "work" (𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘫𝘰) or "job" (𝘦𝘮𝑝𝘭𝘦𝘰). A good example that serves to illustrate both the diversity and complexity of the different variants grouped under "Latin American Spanish". Let's take for instance 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘢. Did you know that it derives from the deformed appropriation of an English term by Mexican migrant laborers (aka 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘴) in the US? Guess which term it is? Read on to find out... #language #languageservices #communication #marcomms #context #latam

Don'ts of an icebreaker: ◇Don't change to English if the new acquaintance is not fluent in Finnish ◇Don't ask personal questions such as 'why are you in Finland'? (the journey to Finland can be traumatic for some people, and thus, this kind of question from a stranger can be a trigger) ◇Don't ask personal questions such as marital status, etc. Do's of a good icebreaker: ♡ Genuine interest to learn about other cultures: ask about the person's origin with an open mind. ♡ Let the person tell about themselves as much as they want. ♡ Be willing to introduce yourself even without being asked. #yhdessä #me #mahdollisuus #intekrointi #turvallisuus #openmind #learn
Do's and don'ts of an "ethical" icebreaker. What is the best way to begin a conversation with an immigrant woman? In an individualist society such as Finland, starting a conversation with a stranger can sometimes be challenging, especially if there are no common grounds/ interest, children or dogs involved. The situation can seem awkward for both parties and an inappropriate icebreaker might be used, which causes more harm than good. From my personal experience, it is easy to know if there's a genuine interest in knowing a new person or if the person is just curious to know what brought me to Finland 😊 Don'ts of an icebreaker: ◇Don't change to English if the new acquaintance is not fluent in Finnish ◇Don't ask personal questions such as 'why are you in Finland'?
