Sometimes we get lucky enough in our projects to approach entrepreneurship and innovation “the Resonance way,” meaning we get to offer *inclusive* business development services. Truly inclusive BDS should be augmented in their format, delivery, and cost to cater to the specific needs of disadvantaged or overlooked businesses. “The Resonance way” also means rooting inclusive BDS in the unique context of the region it is being provided in and leveraging mentors and experts who have succeeded within that specific set of opportunities and challenges. Within the USAID-funded DEMD activity, we were able to do just that in Greenland! 🗻 In close partnership with our amazing Greenlandic subcontractor INUVA.gl and the local municipal business unit Qeqertalik Business Council A/S, we were able to develop the Inclusive Business Incubator (IBI) 💡. The IBI aims to provide inclusive BDS to businesses in the outlying municipalities that are often underserved in both business support and investment. Our joined approach to the IBI focused on providing high-touch, 1:1 mentorship to entrepreneurs from successful business mentors at Inuva or mentors from the municipal business unit – people who have been successful in the same context, and who have met the same challenges. This approach wouldn’t work in every context. But in Greenland, our feedback from both mentors and mentees says that these mentorship relationships are needed and they are working! The IBI has successfully graduated 6 fantastic entrepreneurs from its first cohort in Aasiaat earlier this year, whose entrepreneur profiles are displayed on the Qeqertalik Business Council website linked below.
