🌐 SORA Technology Joins Forces to Request Support from Japanese Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare!🌐 We're excited to share that SORA Technology, as part of the "Business Leaders Supporting Global Health" initiative, recently visited Japanese Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Keizo Takemi. We asked for an expansion of Japan’s ODA expenditures to better tackle global health challenges. Our request included six key actions to enhance R&D support and promote Japanese products and services in the global health sector. Key Requests: 1. Boost R&D support to address global health issues, using Japan’s expertise and considering the needs of developing countries. 2. Create and strengthen mechanisms to support the procurement of Japanese products and services by international health organizations. 3. Develop domestic infectious disease countermeasures and crisis management systems to nurture talent for the global health field. 4. Expand Japan's ODA expenditures in global health while ensuring wise spending. 5. Clearly position global health support as a strategic area in diplomatic policy. 6. Strategically increase contributions to international organizations, especially the Gavi Vaccine Alliance. Our Initiatives At SORA Technology, we're combining drones and AI to combat malaria in West Africa. The world is experiencing the negative outcomes of climate change across industries like Agriculture etc. But healthcare is no exception. Climate change threatens everyone’s health. Every degree Celsius the world heats translates into a potentially devastating health outcome. Research finds climate change has exacerbated more than half of known human infectious diseases. As a health-tech company, one of the greatest challenges of our time will be to better understand this growing threat so that we can help protect human health. Medikea’s contribution to the global collective efforts in the fight against climate change by minimizing the negative impacts of climate change on people's health is something we are proud of. One example is the effects heat stress can have on the fetuses of pregnant women living/working in extreme temperatures. Exposure of pregnant women to high heat results in concerning rises in fetal heart rate, and reduced blood flow to the placenta as temperatures increase. Through our AnteNatal clinic program, we have been able to provide pregnant women with comprehensive care that can enable them to prevent heat stress-related pregnancy complications throughout their pregnancy journey until delivery. I believe, as much as we are focused on making high-quality healthcare easily accessible and more affordable to everyone. We must not ignore the existing threats that undo/slow the progress we are making to realize our vision. And as of now, climate change is a growing threat. We are proud of having Catalyst Fund as one of our early strategic partners in supporting our efforts in building a tech-enabled climate-resilient health system for Tanzania and Africa as the primary line of defense against climate–related shocks and stressors. Through the support from Catalyst Fund, we can scale up much-needed care to communities affected by the impacts of changing climate such as increasing vector–borne and diarrheal diseases, as well as climate–related hazards like heatwaves, floods, and air pollution. MEDLAB WEST AFRICA conference is the most insightful program I attended this year. I learnt various effective quality management approach we are to consider to making the health sector become better in Nigeria. Also I learnt how data gotten from the test, assay and research performed can go a long way in predicting and managing diseases effectively. Analyzing these data will really go a long way. Also discussed was how to optimize fully the advancements of tech in our lab space. Yeah, artificial intelligence hasn’t come to overtake fully but we are to learn the effective and proper way to communicate with these artificial intelligence and also manage them to be able to deliver better. We should also note to evolve with all the AI advancements, so we won’t be left behind. I also learnt various ways we can manage the outbreaks of pandemic. One thing we should be careful of according to one of the speaker is ‘infodemic’ according to the president of the World Health Organization, infodemic is the next greatest pandemic to befall man. Infodemic is the act of spreading false information around, misleading the public when pandemic arises. I am so happy and excited to be a part of this conference. It was indeed impactful. We’re proud to have witnessed & supported this very important event where our partners digiCARE also provided their thought leadership. The Yaonde One Health event in Cameroon is famous for bringing together stakeholders across the board to exchange knowledge on emerging health trends using a One Health approach. At the core of this approach is the interconnection of animal & human health & how it interfaces with ecological factors to impact the general health of living organisms. Our Executive Director, Prof. Jude Kong had an opportunity to share his insights on the power of AI , a community oriented, & gender transformative approach to pandemic preparedness, mitigation and response. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive and agile early warning, alert, and response system. He drew from a framework that has been tried and tested in mitigating cases of Mpox, COVID-19, and malaria. The framework utilizes state-of-the-art AI methods to integrate and model both conventional and unconventional data (such as Google Trends, Google Trends Rate, social media, satellite data, and outdoor containers identified from Google Street View images). This is a great interview touching the interdependence of success factors to fight global challenges like workforce shortage or access to care in poor countries and the prerequisite like the existence of local infrastructure (energy, IT, etc). Only improving all success factors at the same time, step by step, improves the situation. Innovation and digitalization is key.

To attract private funds to the global health field, we will promote public relations, research on impact measurement and management methods, and consider the roles of related organizations based on “Triple I,” an international collaboration framework that promotes impact investment to mobilize new private funds. In addition, we will take the opportunity of the Paris Nutrition Summit to be held next year to support the dissemination of initiatives such as health investment and nutrition measures, and promote the procurement of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, etc. from Japanese companies by international organizations, etc., in order to promote international expansion and international contributions, including inbound medical tourism. In addition, we will establish a UHC Knowledge Hub in Japan as a global base for human resource development and knowledge gathering with the cooperation of WHO, the World Bank, etc., train foreign medical personnel in cooperation with ERIA, contribute to the Vaccine Alliance and the Stop TB Partnership, and promote the efforts of the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH), which aims to build climate-resilient, low-carbon, and sustainable health systems. 🤔 https://lnkd.in/gnNgKV5w

Just submitted our Eurostars Application “Development of a Saliva-based Asthma Monitoring System”! 🚀 An unexpected asthma attack is a terrifying experience for patients 😰. Many end up in the emergency department, some even hospitalized, putting a strain on healthcare resources. 🏥 Our startup, BioInitials, is developing a system to alert uncontrolled asthma patients about impending attacks well in advance of symptoms, using saliva biomarkers. 🪥🙂 But it's no walk in the park. To tackle the challenges, we've just submitted an application to EUREKA with our partners - Universitätsklinikum Freiburg, ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften in Winterthur, and [j]karef GmbH Berlin. 🤝 A big thank you to our partners and the BioInitials team for their invaluable contributions, unwavering support and excellent collaboration. 🙌 Now it's time to cross our fingers. Great to see Ghana in there among 67 countries regarding World Health Organization 's Global Digital Health Monitor Report. What touched me at the concluding part is the need for infrastructural investments into broadband technologies and other critical areas of digital health. Quoting the report "Infrastructure: Adequate investment in digital infrastructure, including broadband connectivity, telecommunication networks, and health information systems, is crucial to enable the widespread adoption and effective use of digital health interventions." For EHR investments in Ghana, the Ghana government has done well by investing in LHIMS which has been a game changer and kudos to Mr Samson Djaba and his Lightwave Ghana team for a great job so far. 5G and LEO satellite broadband technologies coming together will be a game changer and we will make things happen in 2024.
