Not only this week, but every week! I acknowledge every company's safety culture and related activities, but I want to take a moment to appreciate and highlight Lead Foreman Carlos Areas (Civil Texas). As we emphasize Safety Week at Keeley to discuss, celebrate, share stories and lessons learned. I wanted to take a minute to say: This is what it’s about!!! We all have our reasons! Without any request to participate, I noticed his baseball cap. His children had decorated his hat several weeks ago as a reminder for him to return home and to remind him that he is loved every day. This could be his personal motivation and "reason why." I have observed similar practices at other companies where we take a moment to find a piece of art, a letter, or a picture to place in our hard hats as a reminder of our "Why." Let's encourage all members of our work groups to discover their own "Why" and understand the importance of it. Emphasizing the significance of working safely not only ensures our well-being on the job but also enables us to work together effectively and return home to our loved ones every day. Let's make safety a priority, not just for ourselves, but for those we care about.

June is National Safety Month. Our goal is that every employee goes home safe every day. We are investing in our people, changing our culture, continuing to improve our infrastructure and equipment, and using technology to propel these efforts. In 2023, we improved on our following key safety metrics: -Reduced year-over-year serious injuries by 15% from 2022. -Decreased reportable derailment rate by 6% compared with 2022. -Over the past 10 years, track-related derailments declined 28%. While these results are significant and show progress, we have more work to do. We are investing in a safety culture where employees are empowered to speak up if they see something unsafe, to stop a process or activity if they have concern and to look out for one another. We work relentlessly to drive activities and encourage peer-to-peer and manager-employee interactions that reinforce safety as our No. 1 priority. 🏗️ National Safety Week: Driving Personal Ownership in Safety 🛠️ Safety is everyone's responsibility. That's why, during National Safety Week, we're starting with a key topic: taking personal ownership. It's not just about following the rules; it's about proactively identifying and addressing risks before they lead to incidents, and about accepting a greater level of responsibility for our safety and the safety of others. At Milender White, when we See Something, we Say Something. Whether it's an unsafe condition or behavior, we act to correct it, report it, or stop work until it is resolved. We encourage our team members to speak up, because every voice matters when it comes to safety. During National Safety Week, let's all take a moment to reflect on how we can strengthen personal safety ownership. Together, we can create a safer industry and ensure that every project is completed without incident. Thank you to everyone at MW for your commitment to safety. Let's continue to lead the way by owning our safety and supporting each other. Stay safe, and let's build a safer tomorrow. #MilenderWhite #NationalSafetyWeek #SafetyFirst #PersonalOwnership #ConstructionSafety

The fall protection message at this Standown was simple and it is our emphasis as a company at KBE: If you’re an employee and given a fall arrest system to use, ask to be trained on how to use it correctly! If your giving your employees fall arrest systems, provide training before allowing them to use it! So many occasions we find employees excited about being tied off and so many times we discover it isn’t being used correctly. We need to get better as an industry at training our people. With the turnover being such an issue in construction, having employees in the field with little or no experience is becoming the norm. Let’s first get these folks understanding how the systems work and then let’s hold them accountable to use it. Let’s get better at every level to combat falls in construction
We had another fantastic turnout on May 9th for the final Safety Week Standdown at the new South Campus Residence Hall project at UCONN! Safety Managers Brian Maxellon and Josh LaMonte, along with Corporate Safety Director Adam Peters, took a few moments to address the crowd. They emphasized the critical role that each and every one of us plays in maintaining a safe and secure work environment. Their words served as a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to prioritizing safety in all aspects of our work. 🚧 🛠️

Safety starts with me…. Our safety stand downs have changed over the years: from a top down tell approach to supporting colleagues in developing their own personal commitments to safety. Organisations don’t change; people do.

Because Kruse is growing at a tremendous rate, we’re also upping our game in the most important aspect of our business: making sure every worker is fully able to return home safe after a hard day’s work. This year, our safety fair achieved a whole new level of scale, as we brought in the highest number of workers to come together and discuss Kruse’s standards for safety today, and our vision for safety in the future. Our first presenter was Rob Mariott, a veteran of mechanical engineering, and present-day consultant on safety practices in the trades. Not only did he give an incredibly moving speech but will consult Kruse as we expand our safety department. “Safety, quality, and productivity are not enemies, they’re allies in any well-run project.” After this, we had breakout sessions from our new safety manager Nate Splane on Lockout-Tagout, one on proper trench digging, and our crew for the Logan Intergenerational Facility discussed their process in implementing plumbing fabrication. After everyone gathered to hear about the advancements in Guardian harnesses, we had an excellent lunch and heard from Pat and Allison Mitchell, the mechanical and architectural heads for the Kansas City Chiefs and frequent partners with Kruse Corp. They discussed safety through the lens of their army experience, and the standards internalized in Ranger training. In the same way the enemy would like nothing more than for you to slip up on your standards, hazards are waiting for you to neglect your own safety. “These tasks are boring? Fine. Keep them boring. Boring is good. You don’t want a task to suddenly get exciting just because you didn’t do it and a disaster happens.” This was a very sobering safety fair, but also a wonderful opportunity for Kruse to gather people from all corners of Kansas to meet up. With the separation between PM’s, foreman teams, and our scope of work in the Manhattan, Wichita, and Kansas City areas, it’s easy to lose sight of just how many people are in this company, and with this fair everyone can get a bird’s eye view of what Kruse can do, and our vision for making this company a better, safer place to work in the future.
