Effortless is a myth. Very few things in life are simple and easy. There's a difference between perfection and excellence. Federer is arguably the greatest tennis player ever. He recently gave a commencement speech at Dartmouth "In tennis, perfection is impossible. In the 1,526 signals matches I played in my career, I won almost 80% of those matches. Now, I have a question for you. What percentage of points do you think I won in those matches? Only 54%. In other words, even top ranked tennis players win barely more than half of the points they play. When you lose every second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot. You teach yourself to think, 'Okay, I double faulted. It's only a point.' 'Okay, I came to the net and I got passed again, it's only a point.' Even a great shot, an overhead backhand smash that ends up on ESPN's Top 10 playlist, that, too, is just a point." Don't focus on perfection. Don't sweat failing. Focus on being excellent. Get off your behind and get to work. Monday morning inspiration. Have a great week! #motivation #wisdom #inspiration #success https://lnkd.in/ekd6YCNq ------- 👍 Give it a thumbs-up if you find it useful ♻️ Repost to the community if you think they will too

This quote hit me in the feels today after watching my son’s hockey team make an unbelievable and unexpected comeback run to make the state championship finals last weekend, only to lose that final game. 💔 It’s not really about that last win though, is it? The growth and getting up to try again (this time knowing more than you did the time before), that’s the real winning. 🙌 #failforward #growthmindset #designthinking #careerdesign #careergrowth #careerdevelopmentcoaching #careerdevelopment #yourbrandofgenius #careerchange #careercounseling #careercoaching #winningmindset #winning

Injury creates physical restriction. When we can produce movement in the parts that are stuck, we often get limited results. When we return to sport with limited movement, we create imbalances. There is now greater opportunity for compensation. Greater opportunity to turn one injury into another. Greater opportunity for setbacks. By recovering the injury through a scaled sport specific process, we mitigate risk of recurrence and or compensatory injury. No setbacks. Inspirational interview with recently retired international rugby union referee Wayne Barnes - probably the top referee in world rugby. He writes 'reset' on his hand every match. Looking at this reminds him to reset to keep his performance free from distractions (such as crowd pressure, worrying what the coaches will say, what the papers will write, trying not to upset someone). He also talks about displaying a human side with the players, and apologizing when he gets a decision wrong. So many leadership learnings we can apply to the workplace from this example. 'Resetting' to maintain focus and performance. Demonstrating humility, honesty and vulnerability in our daily work. #reset #leadership

Post from James Malone “on-field rehab” in English football as an example of sports recognizing the value of sport and skill specific movements, where the game is played, to properly prepare an athlete for RTP. I think everyone will agree that we need to apply focus to those areas of player recovery that will have significant impact. In hockey, our equipment and playing surface are unique. Our speed and velocity of contact are unique. Our injuries reflect these elements. Yet we often leave on ice player return to skating, skills or assistant coaches to guide. The game has progressed. On ice injury recovery is its own specific area of responsibility. Seek innovative solutions. You are prob thinking, "I don't have time to see a long video now" 😎 Well, making time for inspiration, is a lesson learned (for me). Why? Because it allows me to become a better version of myself and it positively impacts everyone around me. I care. ❤️ Respect for your words Roger Federer. For the empathy felt listening. Once in life I also graduated from tennis :-) and it's exciting to reflect on it again! 🚀 👏 🎾 1 Effortless is a myth. Even if what's seen, is just the tip of the iceberg. 🎾 2 Mindset. When you are playing a point it must be the most important thing in the world, but when its behind you, it's just behind. 🎾 3 Life is bigger than the court. Tennis could show me the world, but it can never be the world. 🎾 4 Philanthropy is not only giving money to other causes it's also, contributing with your ideas, your time, your energy. #leadership #mindset #inspiration

Did you know that 1990, the first IIHF World Women’s Championship took place in Ottawa, with Canada winning on home ice? Then in 1992, the International Olympic Committee welcomed women’s ice hockey as an Olympic discipline. The first Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament was played in Nagano in 1998. Records of women’s ice hockey date back to the early 1900s, when women across North America started forming hockey teams, showcasing their passion for the game. By the 1930’s women's ice hockey had become a recognized and organized activity. However, the momentum faced a setback during World War II when societal dynamics shifted, and women's hockey took a backseat. Post-war, the prevailing attitude considered ice hockey a predominantly male pursuit, leading to a decline in women's participation. It wasn’t until the 1980s that there was an increase in efforts to establish women's leagues. So, it’s great to see how far women’s ice hockey has come, especially with the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) starting last week. It’s going to be an exciting few weeks ahead, and we can’t wait to witness some of the very best women players. Come on Ottawa!! #FuelSports #Sportsfact #sportsindustry
