MathDash (YC W24) is turning math into a sport. The founders of Scale AI, Perplexity AI, and Cognition AI all picked up the problem-solving skills they would need to succeed by doing competitive math. This format sends competitors to the frontiers of math and science by encouraging innovative thinking, fostering a community, and promoting a love for math. Unfortunately, competitive math is underserved. The problems are too hard, the barrier to entry is too high, and the competitions that do exist are too infrequent. MathDash makes competitive math accessible to everyone. They have problems ranging from addition to advanced theory and host daily contests that only require an internet-connected device to join. You compete against people who are your level, and you can focus on learning the skills you want to learn. MathDash already has 200 of the best competitive mathletes participating in their tournaments, and users have solved over 400,000 arithmetic questions! Daniel Sun and Akshaj K. met 14 years ago doing competitive math and were top scorers on the USA Math Olympiad. MathDash is the competitive learning game that they would have wanted when they were kids. Congrats on the launch, Daniel and Akshaj!

I think this is probably the first time I’ve seen something enter the YC that I’d be even remotely interested in looking into 🎉 nothing wrong with adding a bit of spice when it comes to learning, as long as now math folks don’t get a LeetCode/Kaggle kind of curse when it comes to getting jobs

Get a dot com domain.. well worth the price and better to do sooner when you can change the name more easily. Also need to improve SEO and meta tags… I did a google search on ‘mathdash’ and didn’t see mathdash.live until about 8 down w/ no description.

Chess.com does $100M ARR. I think MathDash can do more!

Do you have a proof that the founders of mentioned startups all picked the problem-solving skills they would need to succeed by doing competitive math? Or this is just a marketing statement ment to convince us that we need to try this platform in order to enhance our problem-solving skills!!

congrats Akshaj and team! there is a big space between trivial (but fun) number munchers game of yesteryear and the more hardcore math prep that is not particularly engaging. having great tools for folks to learn opens up the field -- like chess.com did for chess and esp for people who were not treking out to competitions but wanted to hone their knowledge and have fun nonetheless!
