The proliferation of technology in healthcare is undeniable and shows no signs of slowing down. I believe this is a good thing in a world where hospital costs have never been higher (7.7% increase last month alone); AI can now beat the best ocular specialists in assessing eye problems; and Americans’ thirst for GLP1s is seemingly insatiable (challenging for a pricey drug where the benefits reverse when people stop taking it). And this is why I always make room in my life to consciously find time to ask questions and understand. Today, at Wellster Healthtech Group's Bits & Pretzels #HealthTech #Lunch, I had the pleasure to listen to Dr. Sven Jungmann 'Navigating Real-World Patient #Data.' Here are my five takeaways for any startup or business owner in the health tech industry (but not only there): 1. Start early to establish a solid data foundation while simultaneously addressing potential objections, particularly data protection and obtaining sufficient consent. 2. In the medical world, needs are not necessarily wants. User research and user experience are crucial. Maintain a dialog, especially with the scientific community, by involving them in product development. Embrace discomfort during discussions between different teams, such as medical, R&D, and marketing. 3. Establish a process designed for scaling up the business that leverages your strengths, including a comprehensive publishing strategy beyond PubMed. 4. Align your evidence strategy with your company's north star. Avoid overwhelming yourself; take it easy and identify the right moment when the time is ripe. 5. Collaborate with trust-building institutions, such as independent universities, to build trust, contribute to the ecosystem, and access functions (like statistics) that startups typically lack. Key takeaway [for me] so far from this morning’s panel on how to balance patient-centric #digitaltherapeutics with scalable profitability can be summarised by the phrase “Build and they will come”. If you build a product that is intrinsically engaging and keeps patient adherent to the programme, then the clinical outcomes will show themselves, product value can be seen, and uptake will come and with it the money. And how to make a product engaging?
