There is also reflection on blending our child like risk acceptance approach to life with the wisdom of experience. Success comes not from the evolution from one to the other, but the blending of the two without loss of either is my summary. W-H-O-L-E-H-E-A-R-T-E-D My wife has joked for years about me competing on a game show-- and then just decided to sign me up. To our surprise I got an email to join a virtual screening call. I put on a pink shirt and a clip on bow tie and brought my energetic self. DAY 1: I joined an associate producer and 4 other potential contestants in a Zoom room and tried to bring warmth and enthusiasm. At the end of the call, the screener asked me to stay. He asked if he moved me on, could I could bring the same 'level 10' energy the next day. I told him I'd bring an '11'. DAY 2: I joined a different show producer and 3 new potential contestants. We introduced ourselves and did some mock puzzle solving. I was pleased with how I performed. The show producer told me-- "Way to work through the puzzles-- good to meet you". And then that was it. It was fun-- I enjoyed competing and seeing behind the scenes. It was disappointing -- I'm competitive and wanted to get a shot to play. And, I haven't heard back -- and frankly doubt that I will. It feels a lot like a job interview. I can think of many times that I've been a finalist for a position I didn't receive. There is so much happening that you can't see, you want it badly, and still have such little control. It feels great to make progress-- and it makes it harder to accept that you weren't chosen. I'm relearning to wholeheartedly be in spaces-- especially when the outcome is uncertain or unlikely. You want badly to protect yourself, or to seal yourself off from the pain of rejection. And then, sometimes just for yourself, you put on your pink shirt and clip on bow tie, and bring your energetic self, because you are worth it. #TDTh (Talent Development Thursday)
