This year’s Black History Month theme is ‘Celebrating our sisters’, so we wanted to share quotes from four black women shaping the future. We also want to raise awareness about the continuing inequality facing the black community: Did you know in that in Britain: 👉 Black workers with degrees earn 23.1% less on average than White workers. 👉 Significantly lower percentages of ethnic minorities (8.8%) worked as managers, directors and senior officials, compared with White people (10.%) and this was particularly true for African or Caribbean or Black people (5.7%) and those of mixed ethnicity (7.2%). 👉 Black people who leave school with A-levels typically get paid 14.3% less than their White peers. What can I do? - Support black-owned businesses. - Learn about noteworthy black figures and their contributions. - Donate to charities that support anti-racism, Equity and Equality. - Purchase, read and share books by Black authors. - Support and learn about black women. - Participate in online events. - Attend virtual or in-person black history celebrations.
