Although more than 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, only 0.5% of that is actually available for use as freshwater. Addressing the complex issue of water scarcity requires collaboration from many entities and sectors. That's why WWF is partnering with Finish, a Reckitt brand, to raise awareness about water scarcity issues, focusing on one of America’s most important and endangered rivers – the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo. https://lnkd.in/gmF3ANuQ

In 2023, WWF's Craig Beatty discussed how Science Based Targets Network's launch of land targets allows companies to consider how they impact land systems and set targets aligned with global nature goals. https://lnkd.in/e4ayG4Qg Following a year of piloting, today SBTN launches updated methods for open use and validation by any company.
🚀 We are thrilled to announce the main 2024 release of updated technical guidance and new enabling resources for companies to set science-based targets for nature, informed by our trail-blazing cohort of pilot companies! 🎉 These updates enhance the feasibility and practicality of our methods while maintaining ambition and scientific rigor. ✅ New resources to improve accessibility and drive action have also been introduced, including a comprehensive corporate manual that serves as an entry-point into the technical guidance. 📝 SBTN’s target validation pilot highlighted key benefits of target-setting and reinforced that SBTN is closing a critical gap in corporate sustainability, including: 🌟 Increases ambition and drives science-based action on nature. 🤝 Provides credibility and a common language to advance engagement with stakeholders. 🧭 Acts as a trusted compass for companies to get to the right solutions. Stay tuned for more from us in September, when we'll share key pilot outcomes and lessons learned to pave the way for the next generation of targets. 🌍 👉🏽 Explore the latest resources: https://lnkd.in/gSzA6Yb9 🌱✨ #SBTN #ScienceBasedTargets #ForNature #NaturePositive

This initiative, supported by Google.org, showcases how AI can be harnessed to address pressing environmental challenges, specifically for mangrove conservation.
Ever wonder what role AI and technology plays in our conservation work and how it can help us understand the impacts of climate change on ecosystems? ManglarIA is one such initiative at WWF that leverages AI to quickly analyze large volumes of data that informs plans to protect mangroves in a changing climate. By analyzing climate data from sensors, drones, and camera traps, AI helps us understand environmental impacts and then take actions that build coastal resilience. Within this project, community involvement is key, as locals leaders and community members play a vital role in data collection and benefiting from insights to support their livelihoods. Learn more about AI, technology, and climate from Dave Thau, one of WWF’s chief scientists, in the latest PBS Nature blog: https://lnkd.in/gFt9ZKtc
