Today, on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Indigenous communities and peoples who are at the heart of conservation successes worldwide. Their deep connection to the land is invaluable in safeguarding our planet for future generations. Despite contributing the least to greenhouse emissions, Indigenous peoples are disproportionately affected by climate change. Yet, their profound knowledge and connection to the ecosystems within their territories play a crucial role in enhancing the resilience of these environments. Let’s recognize and support the vital role Indigenous peoples play in our global fight against climate change and in building a sustainable future for all. https://lnkd.in/e6YaeqFA

As Anita van Breda, Senior Director of Environment and Disaster Management, highlights in her latest CNN op-ed, "Nature is fundamental to supporting life on Earth, adapting to a changing climate, and reducing disaster risk." It is increasingly important to integrate natural and nature-based approaches into our disaster response strategies as working with nature can enhance our resilience and safeguard communities. Here are some key takeaways: 🌱 Working with nature, including through restoring wetlands and protecting mangroves, is vital for shielding communities from disasters and enhancing climate resilience. 🛠 Integrating environmental considerations into disaster response reduces future risk and vulnerability. 💰 Investing in natural infrastructure can be a cost-effective means for reducing disaster risk while providing added ecosystem services benefits to communities. 🌎 Local community involvement in environmental management as an element of reducing disaster risk is essential for the successful planning, implementation, and maintenance of nature-based approaches. Recently, the WWF Corporate Climate Resilience Partnerships team traveled to Punjab, Pakistan for workshops with high-level government officials, sugarcane farmers, civil society organizations, and academics. WWF brought these groups together to socialize a climate resilience action plan and gather ideas for priority interventions on climate resilience and adaptation against drought, extreme heat, and flooding. WWF Changing Climate sat down with Laura Brush, Senior Program Officer, U.S. Corporate Resilience Partnerships, to learn more about the impact of climate change on sugar production, climate risks to these communities, and interventions that enhance communities’ resilience to changing weather patterns and water security issues.

Did you know that WWF is a co-founder of the Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC)? Check out this latest case study from the RTC to learn more about a solar thermal project undertaken by one of its Solutions Providers:
We are pleased to announce the publication of our newest case study on the solar thermal project undertaken by RTC Solutions Provider Solar UV Solutions, an Indianapolis-based #solarthermal distributor, and the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA). IAA partnered with Solar UV Solutions to install 70 SunQuest 250 solar thermal collectors on the roof of its new Consolidated Snow Removal and Equipment Storage facility at the Indianapolis International Airport. The solar thermal collectors heat a 10,000-gallon water storage tank during the day, which then feeds into the facility’s hydronic loop to be used for space heating for large snow removal equipment. The solar thermal installation contributes to the IAA’s long-term goal to be Net Zero by 2050 and aligns with its commitment to sustainability and resilience. Today is World Mangrove Day! 🌱🌏 Mangroves are vital to our planet, providing essential protection for coastal communities, supporting biodiversity, and acting as powerful carbon sinks. In the face of climate change, their preservation and restoration has never been more critical. At WWF, we are working to safeguard and better understand mangrove ecosystems through innovative projects like ManglarIA. Leveraging data collected from a variety of sensors and AI to help analyze the data, we will improve our understanding of how mangrove species respond to our changing climate and enhance our approach to conservation, enabling us to monitor and protect these crucial ecosystems more effectively. Join us in celebrating the incredible work being done to protect mangroves around the globe and learn more about ManglarIA and its impact. Together, we can make a difference for people and our planet! https://lnkd.in/gQHpCRAB #WorldMangroveDay #ClimateAction
