🌍✨Harnessing the Power of I-RECs for a Sustainable Future 🌿💡 On the International Day of Clean Energy, the world renews its commitment to a sustainable future by shifting from traditional energy to eco-friendly alternatives. International Renewable Energy Certificates (#IRECs) wield a potent tool in this transition. They provide a verification system ensuring that energy comes from renewable sources such as #wind, #solar, or #hydroelectric power, essential for socio-economic well-being and global #sustainability. 📊 According to I-REC(E) market statistics the market experienced significant growth in 2023, with a 42% increase in certificate issuance, totalling 283 TWh of electricity worldwide. This growth is evident in major markets like China, UAE, Brazil, and Turkey. Encouragingly, remarkable progress was seen in smaller markets such as South Africa, Nigeria, and Morocco, with new players like Burkina Faso joining in. Notably, countries like Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Pakistan made their first-ever issuances, marking a global expansion in #cleanenergy adoption. However, amidst this progress, it's important to remember that the 675 million people are still living without a reliable power source. The goal of expanding clean energy isn't just about powering spaces. It's about creating a brighter and #sustainablefuture for everyone. 🌍 💡This movement towards #renewableenergy emphasize the importance of universal access to power and the collective effort towards a #greenerworld. 🌿 #GREENIPATH #internationaldayofcleanenergy #energyaccess #energy #greenenergy #solarpower #hydropower #renewables #renewableenergy #irec #renewableenergycertificates #irecemarket #sdg7 #sdgs #esg #statistics #marketstatistics #climatecrisis #climateaction #sustainabledevelopment #greeneconomy Reference: https://lnkd.in/e8S6z5QN

On 27 July 2023, the Malaysian government launched the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) Phase 1 to accelerate Malaysia's energy transition. NETR is critical in supporting: - The Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025 which outlines aspirations for the nation to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 - The National Energy Policy (DTN) launched in September 2022 with aspirations to become a low carbon nation in 2040 NETR is also crucial in navigating the complexity of energy transition on a large scale, especially the shift from a traditional fossil fuel-based economy to a high-value green economy. UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RENEWABLE ENERGY AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY In today's master class of the Sustainable Energy Accelerator (SEA) Program, our facilitator delved into the critical distinctions between renewable energy and sustainable energy. Renewable energy refers to sources that are naturally replenished, such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power. These sources are inexhaustible and environmentally friendly. For instance, Nigeria's solar farms in Kaduna and the wind energy projects in Katsina are excellent examples of renewable energy initiatives. Sustainable energy, on the other hand, encompasses renewable energy but also considers the broader context of social, economic, and environmental sustainability. It aims to meet the current energy needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Sustainable energy solutions are designed to be resilient and equitable. Internationally, countries like Denmark have set exemplary standards by integrating renewable energy into a sustainable framework that includes energy efficiency and social equity. In Africa, Kenya's geothermal projects and South Africa's solar initiatives showcase efforts to balance renewable resources with sustainable development goals. Locally, initiatives like the Lagos Solar Project demonstrate how renewable energy can contribute to long-term sustainability by reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy security. The presentation highlighted that while all sustainable energy is renewable, not all renewable energy is sustainable unless it considers long-term impacts and equitable access.
