ICEYE’s satellites use Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to capture and analyze wildfires through smoke, clouds, and darkness. This allows agencies to assess local wildfire impacts within hours, instead of days or weeks. ICEYE’s sources include a combination of remote-sensing satellites, observational ground truth, and sophisticated third-party data sets. This provides local agencies with actionable impact data within hours of ignition, long before aerial imagery is available. 

I am excited to let you know about a new R package called 'CDSE' that has been released recently https://lnkd.in/emXiYa-V. This package enables R users to directly access the #Copernicus #DataSpace Ecosystem giving you the ability to efficiently access the imagery from Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, and Sentinel-5 missions. Moreover, you can process and download data from the R environment with ease, using the Sentinel Hub API. One of the most significant advantages of using this package is that you can download only the satellite data that is relevant to your area of interest, instead of the entire image tiles (100 x 100 km) that are usually provided by Copernicus. For those of you who are (still) interested in exploring for #naturalhydrogen, the Sat Imagery "eye in the sky" state-of-the-art technology may become a window-opener and, more importantly, the money saver. The algorithms for remote sensing data interpretation are not so easy to understand but truly beautiful, especially when utilized consciously, in a professional manner. Just to remind you that this wonderful tool shall be applied in a system with other methods and techniques, since there is no such thing as a "silver bullet" in any industry - or in art, for that matter.

Exciting to see increased investment in satellite-based wildfire detection and prevention. Satellites provide a unique and invaluable vantage point and visual access to anywhere in the world with incredible speed.  But when I talk to people about satellite imagery, they tend to think only of the pictures we see in Google Maps.  And while that is true, those pictures only represent the tip of the iceberg of the data collected everyday by the multitude of satellites on orbit. Many of these same satellites that are used for mapping also collect additional spectral bands that are invisible to the human eye.  For example, our eyes cannot naturally see into the infrared or the ultraviolet spectrum. But the information held in those parts of the spectrum can be extremely valuable for analysis. And collecting this additional data with each orbit helps to make the imagery from satellites extremely powerful for this use case.

Using space data to protect our ocean? 🤯🌊 #OceanInnovator Surrey Space Center is designing, developing, and validating a nearly real-time satellite-based application to detect IUU fishing activities in the Mauritius Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Surrey Space Centre will maximize the use of available data sources such as spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) as well as Ship Reporting Systems (SRSs) such as the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) to improve nearly real-time detection of anomalies covering large EEZs and marine protected areas. Working closely with governments and local stakeholders in Mauritius helps tailor-fit the design of the tool based on their priorities, current practices, and main challenges.
