This year, for the first time, we will introduce a brand new addition to our Allies Assembly: a dynamic policy session. This session is dedicated to exploring the indispensable role of governments and public policy in propelling corporate contributions towards the #SDGs. While voluntary initiatives by corporations towards sustainability have made significant progress, they must be complemented by robust regulatory frameworks. These frameworks serve as guardians of global norms, ensuring that businesses operate ethically, uphold human rights, and align with international agreements such as the UNGPs, OECD Guidelines, and the Paris Agreement. Join us at the 2024 Allies Assembly as we bring together stakeholders from across sectors to delve into these critical issues. Together, we'll explore how governments can effectively bridge societal expectations with corporate responsibilities and pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable future. Today is the 1st anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations resolution on the social and solidarity economy #SEE. This was an important milestone for the social and solidarity economy and for #healthmutuals that are an integral part of it. Together with our partners of the International Coalition of the Social and Solidarity Economy GSEF (Global Forum for Social and Solidarity Economy) International Cooperative Alliance ICMIF ESS Forum International, we celebrate this day: https://lnkd.in/dtkABubC 📌 Social and solidarity economy actors are key drivers for sustainable development. 📌 In order to be able to do that, they need an adequate legal framework. So we call on governments worldwide to create an enabling environment for those actors to thrive the change. 📌The UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) plays crucial role as a platform for dialogue, exchange, and cooperation among governments, international organizations, civil society and the private sector from SSE. 📌As we anticipate the presentation of the UN Secretary-General's report next September at the UN General Assembly, the ICSSE reaffirms its commitment to advancing the SSE agenda and building solidarity-based economies that prioritize people and the planet over mere profit. Agenda 2030 on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Are we making progress with SDG16? Since the adoption of the Agenda 2030 for the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, progress towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 has been slow and uneven and in many case backsliding. SDG16 is about promoting Peaceful and Inclusive Socities, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all level SDG16 is measured by 12 global targets with 23 associated indicators: significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere; end abuse, exploitation trafficking and all forms of violence against and torture of children; promote the rule of law at the national and international levels and ensure equal access to justice for all among others. Sadly, with less than six years to hit the target, the progress is backsliding. To meet this Goal by 2030, action is needed to restore trust and to strengthen the capacity of institutions to secure justice for and facilitate peaceful transitions to sustainable development. Key among the actions required is: • Protect civil society and expand civic space, and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and connecting SDG16 with "Our Common Agenda" Civil society participation and citizens engagement is vital in delivering the 2030 Agenda especially at the local or grassroots level. We continue to see the diminishing of civic space and lack of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms from governments and duty bearers. Protecting civil society and civic space make a critical contribution to the effective prevention of conflict and the fight against impunity and corruption. It is a worry premonition to note that SDG16 does not seem to be at the heart of our everyday business. Amb. Sylvestre Sidie Mohamed Kallon. International Peace Ambassador (IEP) and Human Rights Expert.
