With the merger of the Agri-Tech Centres fast approaching, I thought I'd reflect on Crop Health & Protection - CHAP's role in driving innovation in #controlledenvironmentagriculture and #verticalfarming over the last 5 years. Key takeaways are that: 🌱 The potential impact of this new #agritech upon #cropproduction and #sustainability is significant, provided it can be integrated and adopted within #horticulture, and particularly if it can improve the resilience of our existing production systems 🌱 Whilst significant market pressure has been placed upon the industry recently, and despite some consolidation, investment in #innovation is still strong 🌱 There are three innovation focus areas for CEA going forwards: 1) #Robotics, #Automation and #AI 2) #Sustainability and the #Circulareconomy 3) Genetics and #plantbreeding One thing is for certain, we will be continuing to work with innovators and growers within the CEA sector going forward, to secure its growth and resilience. https://lnkd.in/eQXPfe6b

Simple, yet innovative, smart and workable agricultural practice.

A really different and innovative approach that has some great potential for certain crops. Difficult I suspect to fully protect and to provide all the solutions one might want and definitely not for certain crops (though perhaps one could consider other insect delivery mechanisms). I hope that they are able to find more funding to take this further. May not work out ultimately, but this is the type of disruptive innovation that should be encouraged more.
