With the Demo Day of our Winter Batch getting closer, last Friday, the founders had 2 sessions to prepare for the big day 👀 Fundraising Strategy with Manuel Barbosa (Semapa Next) & Delivering a Great Pitch with João Marques dos Santos (Stake Ventures) Here are the valuable lessons and tips that stood out ⭐ - When talking with investors, feel free to ask questions about what they think about your own business and the strategies you are thinking about doing - The other way around also is very important. Ask investors questions to understand their fund strategy and other relevant topics - When talking to an investor, make it more of a conversation rather than a pitch - View questions as pure engagement - Understand the type of pitch (teaser, investment, demo, etc) you should do according to your goal on that occasion - Each slide should be carefully thought of, matching the storytelling and the goal of that pitch Although most of the audience (83%) mentioned they already had their pitch deck ready, this session was critical in providing them with valuable tips to feel 10/10 ☑️ ready to pitch and answer questions from the jury on Demo Day 🎙️! Great insight from the panel on fundraising DOs and DONTs nicely moderated by Raphaele Leyendecker Fabbri Here are my notes: 1 Don’t misread the market: show a model for sustainable growth, not growth for growth’s sake 2 Don’t overreach on valuation and don’t scare off angels by high ticket prices 3 Do secure Angel investment prior to seeking VC funds - it makes for good endorsements. 4 Do get early traction: work with design partners and have an MVP 5 Do have a great founding team but keep it real: max 2 founders and don’t have a COO as co-founder 6 Do show deep insight around your market: - How have you validated that the problem you’re solving is huge and urgent? - Who are your competitors, where are they the benchmark and how will you differentiate? 7 Don’t delegate the duedil to your team. By walking the VC through the data room, this is your chance as CEO to reinforce the relationship and continue to learn how you can make the company better 8 Do your homework on the VCs to get a feeling on who might be a good fit.
